Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by Llmom on December 17, 2015 at 10:45pm: Concern with the adopt a sailor for Christmas... I faxed my form in, didn't get any sort of acknowledgement (just my fax confirmation page) has anyone else faxed in a form?

Comment by Leanna on December 17, 2015 at 8:39pm: My son said this past week they would be going to the gas chamber which according to the timeline is week six. He had already done live fire, and the testing, and aced all of it :)

Comment by diannep on December 17, 2015 at 8:23pm: Leanna: Krisrva is correct. I think you are counting BOOTCAMP weeks, not TRAINING weeks. They are different since BOOTCAMP weeks include processing days at the beginning and some "down" days at the end (but just a couple).

I discovered that my husband, when he emailed the Christmas Adopt a Sailor form, did not use the subject line that the form requested we use. Is this going to be a problem? We didn't receive a confirmation that they received the form, and now I'm worried that they might not have seen the form we emailed to them.

Comment by diannep on December 16, 2015 at 6:35pm: The SRs can be setback at any point so no guarantees. If you can fly Southwest, there is no change fee if you have to change...if you don't use the ticket, you can change it and use it up to a year.
