Wow, Marianne, I can't believe it took long for Liz's A schooling. Glad she's finally on her way.

I wanted to share this with all you all.....I like Michael Jackson (as an entertainer) as much as the next person but this soldier's letter brought it all back into prospective for me. It's for our soldiers, our sailors, etc. they are the real heros. Sorry, it's a bit long (I didn't know how to put the forwarded email in here).

This was sent to me today and makes a good point.....

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A SOLDIER IN IRAQ.
Okay, I need to rant.
I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael
Jackson . As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an
entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent
millions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villian to many
people. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and
I respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point
of my rant.
Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their
minds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the
country was to ENTERTAIN people, the Amercian people find the need to
flock to a memorial in Hollywood , and even Congress sees the need to
hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?
Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a
freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What
about all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those
Soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war,
still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the
United States of America . Where is there moment of silence? Where
are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over
them because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a
Soldier dies, there are more people saying "good ridence," and "thank
God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the
sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off
thier deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop
Icon?"
I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS
for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every
service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan . They need to PUBLICLY
recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people
can live their callous little lives in the luxory and freedom that WE,
those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for
them. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have
been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never
make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit
songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat
and tears so that people can enjoy what they have.
Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it. Feel free to pass
this along if you want.
Remember these five words the next time you think of someone who is
serving in the military;
"So that others may live..."
--
Isaac
Only two people have ever effectively given their lives for you.
Jesus Christ and The American G.I.
One died for your sins, the other died to give you freedom.

Hi Maryellen. Yeah I guess this means our kids are really growing up. Justin did the same thing direct auto withdrawal. Our 14 yr old daughter is a yellow fiend too-she loves all yellow cars-says that's what she's gonna buy. However, her brother has taken care of the car thing for her already. When he bought his new car he left his old car (99 cavalier convertible that he bought with his own cash) for his sisters. They'll turn 14 and 15 in Oct. so they'll be driving soon. That was such a nice brother to do that. He says they don't have to pay him but we're telling them that they need to buy it from him since he bought his car when he had the money so they'll pay him back.

P'Nut, I bet that made her really happy to now have transportation. Justin bought a new car on his 2 weeks home from A schooling before he drove out to his post of WA. He wanted to do it on his own but the only place that would do it was Car Max and they didn't have a car he wanted. Every place else, for first time buyers, wanted him to be employed for 1 yr with the Navy. So we co-signed. His car is almost nicer than ours. He got a 2008 Hyundi Solantra Limited. He's real proud of it. What did Jam get?

Laura, enjoy your time with Dan to the fullest (I know you will). Wow that's been a long time to not see your son. We've been lucky to have seen our son quite a lot since his BC graduation since his A schooling was here. However, last month he was home for 2 weeks and then he moved to Whidby Island, WA. My husband drove out with him and they had a nice time together. We miss him terribly and it will probably be December before we can see him next. He's on an air base where he's an IT. He likes it.

Joanne, as you know nothing is in stone, but when Justin graduated A schooling he was going to get to come home for 3 weeks before heading to HA. Then when they switched him to WA he was cut back to 15 days because they consider HA international. He got an extra 8 days plus he got money (quite a bit) for driving out to WA also. He was supossed to come home earlier than he did also-surprise they changed that at the last minute as well.

Our nephew, up in Michigan, is a tattoo artist. I guess he makes a very very good living at it. He freehands a lot of stuff because he is an artist by nature. Some of the tattoos he does are around $2,000. I cannot even imagine paying that! So far our son hasn't gotten one but I'm sure he will. He's a computer junky (IT) so he's a little more reserved on stuff but I'm sure it'll come. I, personally, always wanted one that I could 'hide' like on my hip or ankle. I just never did it because I'm deathly afraid of needles. I 'freaked' my brother out once by putting a rub on tattoo on my arm and told him I got one. That was fun.

Barb enjoy your time to the fullest. Our Justin was home last month for the 15 days then he drove off to his first duty station in WA. While he was home it was as though he'd never left. That goodbye was hard as I knew it'd be a longer stretch than 2 months before we see him again. I know how you're loving it now.

Congrats to Michael, Beth. He's out there where Justin went the end of May. Justin, however, is on Whidby Island. My husband drove out with him then flew back. He said it's beautiful country out there.

Maryellen, yes hurricane season opens June 1st but it's been said on the news that this was one of the highest May rain months that we've had. Please remind me (us all) is Dani your youngest to leave the nest or is she an only child? We miss Justin terribly terribly bad but we're thankful that we still have the girls. They're both very active in sports and both very social so they keep us very busy. My husband and I have had discussions lately how it won't be that much longer and they'll be leaving us (they're going into 8th and 9th grades). Talk about feeling old, I'm really starting to feel it. I guess that's the chain of life though. I don't have to like it though.
