No, that's what they want you to think (I guess).

I guess they often do that in the military. Plus what he'll be doing (of course I can't go into that and we aren't even privy to all he'll be doing) doesn't seem at all like IT work to me. But, then again, I heard from many people that the military does that a lot-not putting sailors/soldiers in their own trade. This military stuff sure seems weird to me an awfully lot of the times.

Hi Laura, sorry to hear about Dan's surgery and I hope he's as good as new. As of this very moment, Justin is driving home from Pensacola. He graduated his A schooling about 3 weeks ago. First they told him he would be stationed in HA then about 5 days later they switched it to WA. Talk about night and day climates. So he's coming home for his 15 days then he gets another 8 days because he's driving out to WA so he can take his car and stuff. My husband will drive with him then fly back. This goodbye is going to be the hardest yet, I think, because I know it'll be longer than 2 months before we'll see him again. Most of our time while he's home is going to be consumed by car shopping because he wants a newer car than what he has. Justin is an IT (computer technology) and I guess he will be working with aircraft.

Gail-true and Justin is young so he will adapt. As far as airfare that doesn't matter to us because we all fly free because of my USAirways retiree benefits. Thanks for trying.

Gail-so happy for you to finally be able to spend some time with your son. Sure WA state is pretty but it was a bit of a let down for him and us because 5 days earlier they'd said he was heading to HA. HA as compared to WA seems like a huge difference. You know there's lot of rain there-yuck.

Hi Marialice, it has been a while since we've heard from you. Boohoo from me because Justin was going to be stationed in Hawaii along with Zachary but about 3-4 days later they changed it on him to WA state. He comes home next Friday for 15 days then he's off. Yet another happy (at first) to be sad. I have the hardest time with goodbyes I've learned. It tears me up each and every time. Only this time will be goodbye for a longer time probably. Don't be a stranger to our group anymore.

Justin called today. He's hasn't left A schooling yet (graduated week ago) and they've changed not only the date that he comes home, the length he's home but also have changed his station. No longer going to Hawaii now going to Washington State-very close to Seattle. He said he can get an air warefare pin. He's now okay with that-he was bummed at first. What saddens me is that, he said, he would be deployed to places like Iraq for a few weeks at a time. Not sure why they'd take an IT and put him on a war plane but guess that's the military for you.

Justin just called. He graduated A schooling just Friday. We didn't go because he said not to. He said all that happened was he shook his commanders hand. He was/is in Pensacola for IT (computer technology) schooling. He told us this morning that he just got told that he didn't get his choice to be shipped to on his dream list. He'd picked Japan, Italy or Florida. He got Hawaii. He's happy with that. He's real happy that he won't be stationed on a ship. He's not sure when/if he can come home or how long he'll be held up in PNS yet.

I hope everybody and their sailors are great-this site is loosing it's oomph it seems. Hope to hear from you all.

A friend just sent me this Navy video. It's pretty cool. I told her my son will be doing/has done some of these things. Check it out. See:

Maryellen, so sorry that your daughter is on hold with her circumstances. I heard from other military families that it's always hurry up and wait. Now I know that to be true. We have no military background so it's all new to us. Justin, 2 weekends in a row, has been told that he could drive home for the weekend from PNS then they tell him at the last minute that he can't. This weekend especially hit us all hard because it's his bday tomorrow. I just figured with the govt they'd be more organized but I've found that they say one thing one minute then another thing another minute, what's good for one is different for another and they're (military) never on time. Perhaps we all need to start yoga thanks to the military to get thru our frustrations-ha.
