OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Chris said they ONLY mail letters on Monday (he's the Mail Petty Officer), so you will probably get mail only one day a week, maybe two days if he mails two or more letters and they get split-up in delivery.

They do get mail 6 days a week, though.

There are supposedly three "mandatory" phone calls: the "I'm here" call, a call in the 3rd week (not sure if it's at the beginning or end of that week) and the "I'm a sailor" call when they successfully complete Battlestations. Some divisions get more calls, some because they earn them, others because they have "nice" RDCs. Others never earn or are given additional calls.

At Chris' last DEP meeting a recent graduate came to talk to the DEPpers, he said his division got a total of 6 calls throughout boot. The recruiters warned us that the this young sailor's experience was NOT typical.

And, I'll have to be first in the wimpy line....I'll be sniveling all the way. Anybody have a tissue or have you used all of yours too?
Comment by Beverly on January 8, 2010 at 12:17am
I totally agree Janet, if they are strong enough to do it, we can be strong enough enough to support them. Next thing we know the RDC's are going to be posting on here that we're a bunch of wimps and that our kids are the strong ones. :-)

I'm so sorry Sandy. ((((Sandy and daughter)))) I hope she feels better soon, and that God makes a new AND BETTER path for her. Sending much love and hugs your way. :-(
