Michaelswife- I am married too. My husband did set up direct deposit during processing. He told me that I would get a months pay, seperation pay, and housing. It is true that our first payday is the 15th. Did he take a form from your bank to sign up on direct deposit? If not- as said before then they opened an account. You will have to find out how to get added to that account.
Have you gotten your ID yet? Or what about your insurance info? I just took care of all that this week.
Hope that helps.

If he said it should have been there on Jan. 1, then you definitely need to talk to someone.

Their first two or three paychecks are usually eaten up by the cost of their uniforms and other things they have to buy right away and things they buy in boot camp, from shampoo to portraits. The cost of the uniform isn't reimbursed for several months. The other supplies are not reimbursed.

Navy paydays (called disbursement) are the 1st and the 15th, if he has anything left in the upcoming paycheck after all he has been spending (mostly not his choice) it will show up in his account on the 15th of this month. They do not deposit between paydays.

Direct deposit was probably taken care of during their P-days, when they did all of their paperwork. If he registered your existing account, it will show up in your account, if not they created a Navy Federal Credit Union account for him, he will have to get you put on the account if you want to use the money.

Usually the first money that arrives is only a few hundred dollars. Then about the time he gets to A school an unusually large deposit will show up, the reimbursement for his uniforms.

There are different rules for long schools and married sailors. Yes, for typical 14 week schools bachelors never earn off-base living privileges, but for married sailors at long schools they will get those privileges at about their 12th week, I think.

during those 12 weeks you can move, get settled, and at least have evenings and weekend days together until he can live with you. He will still have occasional "duty days" when he will not be home overnight.

Check to see if you can get base housing, or if you have to get your own place. Living in family housing is usually very convenient for everyone.

My foster-daughter went through this about 3 years ago.

Ladies- I have a question that I hoping you can help with. My husband is going to Groton,CT for A school. Since it is 9 months long we have been told that we get to go with him. The navy is moving us. Here is my question... Can I start looking for off base housing now or can he not live off base in A school?

Oh, I should mention, I KNOW that section leader is one of the positions that can make rate by keeping their position. Other positions I know for sure earn rate for keeping the position are RCPO (recruit chief petty officer) and RMA (recruit master of arms).

It's the "job related" ones I'm uncertain about - laundry PO, mail PO, etc.

Section leader, cool! For some recruit positions, if they manage to keep the position through the end of boot camp, they get a promotion right out of boot camp. If they went in as an E-1 they get E-2, if they went in as E-2 they get E-3. They cannot get E-4 this way, I think.

I still don't know if Mail Petty Officers are eligible for this. I hope so.

The letter I got had 5 (FIVE) forever stamps on it! It really was a one-stamp letter. LOL! Two of them weren't canceled, so we peeled them off and are using them to send letters back to Chris. In one of those letters will be instructions for him to chill on the stamps. Oy.

They *can* buy more - when their RDCs decide they've earned or need a trip to the NEX for supplies.
