Good news for us for next week: apparently there is a "mandatory" phone call in the third week. I don't know if it's at the beginning or end of the week, but sometime next week we should be getting our first real calls. I guess this is to the mothers, wives and girlfriends of recruits in divisions with really tough RDCs don't come breaking down the gates at RTC, wanting to know if their recruit is still alive!

Apparently the only other GOOD guaranteed call is after successful completion of Battlestations.

Any other call is earned by the division or individual recruits, or graciously provided by kind, loving RDCs (which seem to be in short supply in our PIR group).

Thanks Fonda Sue! It was great to find this site. This is harder than I ever imagined. I did get the 2 second call on the 15th when he got there. I agree... we love them all the same. I can't imagine how I would feel if this was my lil man in basic training. (He's only 2)

My husband is on ship 14 div 099. I have received my form letter, my insurance info, and one letter from him. I am DYING for him to be able to call... so is our two year old son! :)

(((Sandra))) I'm glad you got to talk to your daughter, but I'm sorry she had been injured. Please keep us posted on how she is. :-(

Fonda Sue - Maybe I'm being slow, but if you are butt anked in a 107 degree hot tub out in the 7 degree weather - how are you getting warmer? Aren't you, uh, eyelashes, getting cold out there???

Does anyone have any wisdom about whether hot glue might be a viable option to affix these medals to the felt in the shadow box? I've been looking at them, scrapbooking, double sided adhesive squares didn't work (gravity pulled the medals off the felt after about 20 minutes). The ribbons and rank have metal pins that stick through the felt board, but the medals have a type of pin that doesn't work.

Arwen, I did remember your trick of looking at pictures, but the pics I have were made prior to some of the medals he received at the end of his senior year. It was nice to sort of know how to get at least some of the info. Thanks. :-)
