In another group someone commented that our recruits earn a medal just by enlisting during a wartime period. I thought that was BS until I did a little research. It's true! Not for enlisting, actually, but anyone who serves in the military during wartime or military conflict. It was initially awarded during the Korean Conflict, and is also worn by those who served during Vietnam (whether they went or not), the Kuwait liberation and for the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.

So our recruits will walk out of boot camp wearing one or two (if they qualify for marksmanship) medals.

That's one reason why I created this group. As much as it helps to know what's coming, from the conversations of those who are ahead of us, it is very frustrating because what they are talking about really doesn't apply to me or my son yet. I prefer to stick with those who are in the same "boat."

I just hate the fact that our recruits are 10-week campers. They might as well add another three weeks and do Marine boot camp. Phew!

that is absolutely beautiful Arwen. :-) The number of days dwindling down is a beautiful thing also. :-)

No letter for me today. :-(

Okay, so where are all the Div 101 moms? I haven't seen ANY yet!
Comment by Beverly on January 3, 2010 at 10:26pm
I don't know if Div 100 has the meanest RDC's because on the DIV 913 thread, one of the moms got info that said the Div 913 RDC are the meanest and scariest....and they have to be perfect in their performance routines AND their naval protocol....I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever get a letter/phone call. :-(

I think we should just all march up to GL and let them know how this thing needs to be run!

Apparently we didn't teach Chris to shine his boots. Hrumph, I knew there was something we forgot!

Jaqueline, I think I'm the one you're talking about, I've been asking about handicap access for my grandfather at PIR
Comment by Beverly on January 3, 2010 at 9:25pm
Jacqueline .... I'm throwing this out there but you might be talking about someone else. I have a grandfather that was a WW2 vet, and my recruit was born on Dec 7, so he has all the WW2 memorablia from his great-granddad and has always followed everything with WW2 because he thought his birthday was a cool day.

Like I said, your message is probably for another mom, but since the WW2 thing is very significant to us I wanted to throw it out there in case there was a mix up in the message. :-)
