So my husband and I decided for me and our son to move to Great Lakes for his A School since it is going to end up being longer than we were expecting.  He will not get out of A School until the end of October!  Does anyone know of any good/safe/cheap apartments close to the Naval base??  If not, do you know of any cities/towns close to it that can help narrow my search?  Anything would really help!!  Thanks in advanced!!!!

Waukegan is close.   So is Gurnee.  Several other places to that I have seen as I have looked for hotels close by.  Contact Chamber of Commerce of one and they should be able to help you.   Good luck.
i can check with a friend of mine who lives close by.
I live rather close to GL and some towns nearby are Waukegan and Gurnee.  I am approx 25 miles from GL and I live in a town called McHenry.  How close do you want to live?  I can help you find some decent apartments if you tell me how close you want to live to GL.  Than I can let you know what towns are decent.  Do you have children that will be attending schools?

It is considered Lake County Illinois.  Some of the surronding towns close to GL are: Waukegan, not that good of a town.  Grayslake, not bad.  Gurnee is real good.  Lake Bluff a littler more on the higher end.  Mundelein not a bad town as well as Libertyville.  Lake Forest is a little more on the higher end.  If you could give me a better idea of how much you are willing to spend on rent and how big of a apartment you need I can help you.  I own my home so I am unsure how much rent goes for nowadays.  Does the Navy give subsidised housing or anything for family to relocate?  You can email me @ freak0105@hotmail.com and I would be able to give you more info as I find apartments for you.  These towns are within 10 miles of GL

Thank you so much!!!!!!  That would be very helpfull!  I will email you with more info!!!

I found some apartments for you this evening.  These are in Grays Lake Illinois.  Grays Pointe Condominiums.  2bdrm 1ba $870-912 rent.  Phone is 877-847-3246.

Royal Oaks Apartments.  Grays Lake Illinois.  2bdrm $925-1025 rent. 866-594-9495 ext 8289

Willow Wind Apartments.  Gurnee Illinois 2bdrm 1.5 bath $775-850 rent.  866-517-6381 ext 8739

Cinnamon Lake Towers.  Gurnee.  This one is within minutes of GL base.  2bdrm 1.5 bath $760 rent.  866-604-4334 ext 7214.

None of them have a washer and dryer in unit.  They have a shared laundry area.  There are dishwashers in these units as well as central air.  Most of the apartments don't have the washer and dryer in the unit.

Let me know.

AWESOME!!!!  Thank you so much!!!  You had a lot more luck than I did!  I couldn't find anything under $1100 for two bedrooms!!!  Again, thank you so much!!!  Hope to see you at PIR!!!  I will have our 3 year old son and will be dressed in a black dress (couldn't find a yellow scarf), I would love to meet you!  9 more days till PIR!!!!!!
It isn't that hard living so close to the base.  It actually nice knowing he is close by.  What will be hard is when he leaves for Pensacola Florida 2/15.  I won't have the comfort of knowing he is close by.
Let me know what you get.  See ya at PIR.

I am moving to GL area for my husbands A school, I am going to check out these 2 places while I am up there for graduation:

and

Over in another group I read ALL 60 pages of this disscussion:

http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/aecf-wives-club-for-our-et-...

They talk about ALOT of really good and safe places to live up there. I really recommend taking a look at the discussion.... I found it very helpful!

Thanks a lot!!!!
