Note to all, When you are at the PIR make sure that some how, some way, you get the divisions marching into the parade hall. It is an experience the likes of which you will never see again. I did not get it for my son thinking I would order the one from the Navy exchange, but theirs does not have it either. It was THE most moving part of the ceremony when they open those overhead doors and your sailor marches in, well, make sure you have tissues ready. IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to all and Godspeed to our sailors.

Kelly, I didn't cry at all this time around. having the heads-up instead of being surprized, like on Valentines' day helped a lot. I'll try not to on Friday- I cry easily at lots of things.

Kellie, Yes my son sounded very happy too. He was glad he got his sailor cap. He was trying to stay awake until 8 pm tonight after being up since 6 am yesterday. He said they won't know until end of week if Div 818 gets honors or not. We leave on Wed to drive up to Chicago, where we will attempt to stay warm. We've lived in TX so long our blood thinned out.

Is the countdown off by around 12 hours? Fri am - Tues am is 3 days. Tues am to Mon evening (now it is 9:3) is 11 more hours. However, I could not have made the counter at all, thanks! Son called today. Both to Dad, sister and myself. Sounded different- ( older?, calmer?) He said please don't write a lot on mavymoms since those young men get razzed extra PT and more since the commanders can find out whose mom is whose. Does not know his bunkmate's first name, only last name. He will stay in GL for one week taking a course then go on to Coronado.

We haveonly gotten the one call on VALENTINE'S DAY, which was wonderful! Wondering why some parents have gotten two or three calls?

I'm so glad to hear from one of you that Div 818 has BS on sunday night. I have been wondering when or if we'd get a second call!. I have been on spring break, leaving my phone on and loud with me all week. I will leave my cell on at work MOnday and Tuesday ( I'm a teacher..., tough, i'll answer in the middle of class!) Calin wrote to sister, drawing pics of himself after the gas chamber while she was eating cake and having fun. She loved it! we leave on Wed to drive to Chicago. ( 18 hours)

HI, my son Cal is in DIv 818 ( SWCC special forces) PIR 3/20. One of you wrote that you are staying at the navy lodge. How do we arrange that? I thought the recruit/sailor has to be there when we check in? The prices look good and it is certainly close.
