OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

BATTLESTATIONS*

This is the final test for the SRs. They will be tested on all that they have learned and all that they may encounter when deployed on a ship. It is a 12 hour overnight drill. The go over to the Disney-created ship (USS Trayer) in the evening and finish up with a capping ceremony in the morning. At this ceremony, they trade their recruit caps for their sailor caps, have now graduated, and are sailors! Teamwork is the name of the game...they will be put into small teams and must function well together. They will be evaluated as team members and as individuals. This is what a Chief said about BattleStations: 150-300 recruits go through a night, out of that 3-10 may fail and have to repeat on another night. Teamwork is the key. If the recruits keep their mouths shut, listen and focus, and work as a team, they will pass.

The divisions will go through with their brother divisions. Up to 4 (2 sets of brother divisions) can go a night, but sometimes only 2(brother divisions) or 3 (set of brother divisions, 900 or 800 division) can go. They start with the lowest numbered divisions and work up...800 and 900 divisions are random. They can start these on Thurs a week before PIR, or not until Sun or Mon of PIR week for small PIR groups. They do not do them on Fri or Sat nights because of Captains Cup on the Sat before PIR---a fun athletic competition between divisions. If a SR fails, he/she will get some rest and go again with another division. They can even go as late as Thurs night before PIR, which means they will be at PIR in uniform, but in the balcony due to no rest. They also have to have passed all tests before going through BattleStations...and anyone who doesn't accomplish this will not be able to go through with their division....but another one once the tests are completed.

The I'm a Sailor calls usually come around 2 pm GL time...and continue for a number of hours afterwards. They have activities on the day they finish so can't call right away...some may even have PIR practice before calling. Have phones handy all day! If you don't receive a call, it could be that your new sailor had watch or another duty that kept him/her from calling. If there is a setback, you will be called.

109+110, 111+112, 113+114
