I bought a duffle and a backpack so he can use the backpack when he goes to classes and stuffs. I packed some shirts, undies, pants, his fav sneakers, laptop, cell, glasses, toothbrush, razor, socks, deodorant, watch and wallet. Just remember ladies, I read on the RTC FB site that they are not allowed no plain white or dark blue t-shirts (must have logo/design or pocket to not be "plain") no holes in pants, nothing excessively baggy or loose, nothing offensive or that could soil the good name of the navy, no flip-flops (but sandals with straps behind ankle are ok).

Oops I posted twice! I'm really not crazy Hehe.

I know Jen I'm so excited I can't even stand ot anymore!

Thanks Dianne and everyone for tips on what to pack our SRs and what to pack it in. I am going to try to find a backpack otherwise a duffle will have to do.

I bought my SR a small plain black expandable duffel bag from walmart. it was 10 bucks in the travel section. & then I bought him tooth paste, tooth brush, deoderant & other stuff like that. I'm so excited :) 11 days!!

Good idea Ashley. I pretty much have the same stuff as you. I'm wondering how big the bag can be.... hhmmmm.????
The grad packet sounds like the form letter....

Everything your SR needs for A school has to be sent when you get back home from graduation. They are not allowed to take anything back with them through the naval base gates. This info was given to me be a recruiter.

Dianne,  I think you are right, it might be a really outdated site. I do have my form letter with the password for the parking pass. I just wanted to make sure that I haven't missed anything.  Thank you, Jeannine

Just remember... whatever you bring your new sailors can only be given to them at the airport....once they are off RTC.  Nothing can return to RTC.  And....for those staying on in GL...and moving over there during the following week, we were just informed that the LockandGo place to rent lockers for their things is no longer in business.  If anyone hears of a substitute place with lockers up there, please post so we veteran ladies will know.   Thanks!

Ashley and Navywife:  A black backpack is the best thing to pack their things in.  Because they will be carrying a big heavy seabag and a large garment bag with their uniforms in it.  Would be nice to have this on their back and out of the way.  It doesn't HAVE to be a backpack...could be a small duffel type bag...but just may be easier if a backpack.  Needs to be plain black. I have been told that they sell them at the NEX if you decide to buy it up there.

Jean:  Unless this is the form letter, like navywife said, I'm not sure what it could be.  And a parking pass mailed?  That's strange, as you download those as early as 11 days before PIR on the computer...with the password received in the form letter.  That site may be outdated....because unless this is something new, there is no info mailed out after the form letter.

Everyone needs to doublecheck with their hotel to make sure they have the PIR shuttle (taxi) service.  A couple of people have mentioned that some hotels no longer have it.  If you call and are told "no," call again the next day at a different time (different person to talk to) and verify that.  Several on these groups have been told "no PIR shuttle" only to call back the next day, speak to another agent and find out they DO have it.  If you do this, please post the hotel on here and that they do/do not have the PIR shuttle so we veterans have that info for future reference.  Thanks!
