Moms--there is a Blue Star Flag you can order to support you loved ones in the Navy. This flag is FREE and is very easy to order. It may take several weeks to receive it and it comes regular mail. It is to hang in the window of your home to let everyone know you have a loved in the military.(just in case theres someone that doesnt know...LOL)..here is the link:

soccermom--if the flight is not chartered...then yes, the family is allowed to wait with them. In fact..they expect it. Yes there is a visiting area, which i hear is quite nice.

shalamar--you will find that each letter will be of a different 'mood'. My sons letters didnt cause me to lose weight, if anything it was the opposite...lol I would look for (and find) every piece of chocolate i had and then go buy some more..hahaha!

We got 4 letters all at once from our SR yesterday, we had gotten one letter last week also, she is saying the same about San Antonio, I spoke with her recruiting officer and she confirmed that "A" school is moving by the end of March ~ the ebbs and flows of emotion in her letters has caused me to lose about 4-5 pounds OMG I will be so excited when PIR arrives :-)

QUESTION: For GnG or Saturday Departure............If the flight in not chartered - does the airport allow the family to wait with the Sailors departing?  I read about the USO but that's at the Naval Stn right?  For instance, if Sailors are driven early in the morning to the airport ............is there a place that family & the one waiting for a flight sit & visit?

Yes, you are right, Lala...the NEX cards can be purchased online.

HooyahProud:  Here is the website:

http://www.navy-nex.com

You can mail it to your SR so that he/she doesn't have to use their own money.

I have heard that you can get one online. I would try calling the NEX on the Great Lakes base and ask them how to do it. They are allowed to have them. They can use them to buy things they are allowed to have such as toiletries, or even a phone card. there are given one when they arrive at bootcamp. According to my sailor it is for $100.00 (comes out of their paycheck). They have things that they have to use it for such as haircuts and for toiletries when they run out of the ones they receive when they first get there. They can also use them for stamps/paper and if there is anything left on it near the end they can put it towards their pictures.

I have a question that might have been addressed earlier but I'm not able to find the answer.  (sorry)  How can we get a NEX gift card for our SR?  Are they allowed to receive one now, and if so, what can they use it for?

Good morning everyone. I just received a payment on PayPal for some of the PIR ribbons I make for each group. The initials of the person who sent the payment are T N And it is a guys name. There is no note with is so I have no idea whose ribbon order this is for. So, if you just sent me a payment through PayPal this morning and didn't put a note with it please send me a message so I can figure out who this money belongs to. Thanks so much, I hope you all have a great day. There should be more letters coming today since Monday was a holiday. :-)

NavyJane- while they are in school they have limited space. They live in a room similar to college dorms. Whatever they need and you send to them you have to pay for it. No help with that. When they leave school and go to their first duty station they usually fly and they are responsible for carrying all their own stuff in the seabags. So the more they accumulate the heavier it is and the more bags they have. Many of them get used cheap stuff like TV's and such that they can sell to someone before they leave so they don't have so much to carry. Once they are finished with school and at their duty station they can have more items. They are usually at the first duty station for about 2 yrs. If they are ships company once they are out of school they will still be very limited on the space they have. If they are not ships company and are married they can lives off base after a lot of paperwork. The Navy does pay to move their furniture and stuff like that if they are married or they can move it themselves and be reimbursed. I hope this helps lol. Probably way more info that you were looking for. :-)

If she is in the dorms she will eat at the mess hall using her meal tickets. Only married S's get to live off campus. Go to the Nuke groups and scroll through all the discussions and information pages! If your SR is a Corps go to that group and do the same there.  Facebook even has some pages for the schools. Good luck! HooYah!  Moms Boot Camp! That's what we are in these future weeks!
