We all just celebrated our Sailors Graduating today and most of us have really enjoyed our afternoon with them. I really don't want to give him back to RTC! My sailor will be learning how to be ET (Electronics Technician), originally he was going…Continue

Also-- a little advice about phone calls from your recruit. Remember that they are not allowed to talk that much while in BC, so when you receive your first call.(847 area code)..be prepared for them to do most of the talking. I know you will have tons of questions, but save them for when you think they are ready. Have your questions ready and ask at the end of the conversation. You may also notice a difference just in the way the speak..they may sound a little more mature....it is also going to be emotional for you to hear their voices, but try to stay strong as to not get them emotional. Sometimes..if you start crying, they will start also. They seem to get in a funk after speaking to their families for the first time, so if you end the call 'upbeat', it might help them to not be so upset afterwards when they go back to their ships..:))
claysgirl---lol, im sure you will hear something. Its hard to hear of all the moms receiving letters while you are still waiting. Just try to live thru theirs and find out thru their letters what is going on in there in case you want to ask your SR anything about it.
Also...a lot of times...ive heard moms say that their letter was so upsetting because their SR talked about wanting to come home, hating their decision, etc...and the parents were even MORE upset after having read the letter then they were about waiting for some kind of word. They said they wished they had never gotten a letter, it was better 'not knowing'...If this happens, just remember what we told you before, that they are probably just having a bad day...and that by the time you actually received that letter, everything is better for them. This happens a lot. Plus...i think it helps the recruits to vent..(unfortunately, they vent to us and it makes us worry even more...LOL).
Also. they say that something happens around the 5th week in, and everything turns around for the recruits. They have fallen into a routine, they know what is expected of them, they have made friends, and they are 'over the hump' as far as weeks in goes...and all gets good.
Im so glad to here some of you are receiving some letters finally. You will find that it makes time go by a lot faster.
Soccermom---you should clip any and all info you can from newspapers or web about his favorite team. I sent my son articles about his sports teams..just to keep them updated. He loved the show Dexter and watched the whole season except the final two episodes...so one of my letters to him was a blow-by-blow account on how the season ended and at PIR, he brought it up...saying he couldnt beleive what happened on Dexter..:))
They miss so much in the 2 months they are in there. At PIR...we went to the mall and he didnt recognize ANY movie that was showing at the theatres. And he heard a song on the radio that we all said we loved (katy perry)..and it was the first time hes ever heard it...it seemed weird to us,,,but they're REALLY out of the loop in there...lol
NavyJane, SoccerMom 4/01/11, Traverler, Chastity, Conster1114, and Clay'sGirl, Reggie, Azjulie... Just got a letter from my son!!! He said that 115 is the "brother" division to 116, so they many things together. He said the bunks in his division are the Jokers of the groups and he worries that they will get divisional wide PT if they get caught. Three guys in 115 got IT punishment one afternoon... he was glad he didn't get it because at the end of it, two to them couldn't move!
He wound up getting the Peanut Butter Shot... he says his butt hurts from that... I am very interested in learning about this!!! Maybe an allergy shot???
He must have purchased stationary because this is on GL NTC paper. I told him that he can use the backside of the letters we write to him to write back to us, that way we get the letters back (for his keepsake book) and we get answers from that letters questions. My Dad did that during WWII with his parents and sisters. We have mailed three letters so far, but I haven't put any SASE in them, I will start doing that with the next mailing!
I am making a list of all those in 115/116 Divisions, since I now know for sure that they are together during all the training.
Found out from EagleMom (her son is stationed overseas) that letters usually arrive on Weds/Thurs. So those days are the days to watch for them. During all eight weeks her son was at BC, she only got them on that days.
Clay'sGirl: The business-sized card with the telephone numbers is an excellent idea! I hope others on here see that and do it...because you would be shocked at how many phone numbers they really don't know if they have been using them on speed dial on their cell! I think the only reason that my son knew numbers is because he always dialed them on his cell rather than speed dial. That little card will fit perfectly in their wallet.
So ladies, good idea to mail something like this in the next letter...any phone numbers you think they may need. Remember, God forbid you miss their call, but it would be a shame if they couldn't reach anyone else because they didn't know phone numbers---and had to give up their long-awaited and well-deserved phone time!
