You are very welcome, soccermom....you will have lots of help on this site with veterans.  What janlee (a recent veteran!) wrote below is so true....

soccermom--your SR's will start receiving mail about 3 weeks in. I received my first phone call before i received any mail. They are only allowed to write on Sundays at first...so whatever you ask him in a letter...wont be answered until sunday rolls around. And usually by then, they forget any questions.

Moms...the best way to get questions answered is the write or type them in questionaire form. Even provide a line for them to write the answer on, than tell them to just sent that page right back home to you...lol

They like answering questions (beleive it or not), its fun and easy for them and you will get the answers you are desperately seeking:))))

Thanks diannep..........I have wondered about how they breake up divisions & the significance............We need all the help we can get..........I'm so thankful for the veteran moms that take the time to walk us through the process.. God bless.:)))))))

Welcome, otty!  Ok, veteran here.  Will try to explain the divisions.

The divisions currently are in the 100's, you are correct...they just "cleared" in the Fall (meaning that they start over in the numbering).

800 divisions are always the special operations divisions and there aren't too many of them each year.  These are your rescue swimmers, seals, etc.

900 divisions are the performing divisions...ones with talents.  Music, instruments, etc.  They perform at other PIRs in addition to their own.

Hopes this helps!  Jessica, Layla, Betsy, and I are all veterans and check on the active PIR groups often.  So just post your questions!

Welcome Otty: I'm not sure of the answer to your question.........but it's a good one.

Maybe some of the veterans on here can help us out.......I know JessicaB has been helpful & a few others so perhaps some time today we'll get a response.

I look forward to getting to visiting with you:))) I am still waiting for "the form letter" as well..............Hopefully in the next few days....

Hello everyone.  I hope I am in the right group.  My son also left one week ago, Thursday 2/3.  I have received 'the box' this past Monday but am still waiting on the letter.  I did contact his recruiter and get his address.  I am told he is Ship 02 Div 920.

Can anyone please explain what the difference in the divisions are?  I have been reading the posts all week and learning alot but cannot find out why some divisions are in the 100's, some in the 900's, some in the 800's.  I'm stumped.  I did read a post about a moms son was doing behind the scenes during other PIR's because he was in the 900 group. What does that mean?

I know we are all new and you may not know, but maybe?

Happy to be here.

For those of you who got addresses from the recruiters, be sure to check them with the mailing address in the form letter when it arrives.  If there is a difference, the form letter address is the correct one.  Letters sent to recruiter's address (if different) should still get to your recruits.

Good morning azjulie: I guess most of us right now are in the same boat (ship) lol...I received my box Tuesday and am now waiting for "the form letter"....Hopefully in the near future the SR's  will be receiving the mail that we are sending.  I began mailing letters off this past Monday once I received my son's address from his recruiter..........the "hurry up & wait" is challenging but this site has made it tolerable.....I'm looking forward to visiting with all you N4M's & making plans to meet at PIR in GL on 4/01/11:)))))))))

Hello all. I'm guessing this will be my son's PIR date. Time will tell. He left 1/31. I've seen some of you on the other boards. I have "the box"; got the I'm here call late on 1/31; got his address today from his recruiter and am waiting for the official letter.
