emma_0077 wow congrats on 2 letters, thank you for sharing, congrats to your son on his great PFA scores I am tired just reading them lol. I am glad I didn't send anything for Easter what a bummer to see it and have it taken away. Not much longer they can eat what they want!
Comment by AuntofJon on April 8, 2010 at 3:30pm
emma - Did the PAO say it was okay to send them (contacts)? My nephew made the same comment on one of his letters and we didn't know if he kept the contact he had when he arrived or not.

I to want to thank all of you for your encouraging words during these past weeks. This is the best site to get info because Daniel certainly doesn't give us a lot in his letters. Although he always makes sure that we know everything is going well for him and his division. So thanks again and my prayers are for all going through BS and Boot Camp. May God Bless each and everyone of you. You are such very special people.

I got 2 letters today and he mentioned that he sent a card for Easter. Hummm didn't get that yet. oh well, it's coming I guess. No mention of when BS is. He passed the final PFA and was excited about not having any more PFA's. Since he is in the performing division he had his first PIR ceremony and he said that the Band is the real show stealer, they were amazing and not to mention the opera singer with drop dead vocals. ha! His PFA 86 push ups, 90 sit ups in 2 min. and 11:30 mile and a half! wow!

He asked for his contacts because they can wear them at PIR! So, I called just to confirm that he can wear them and PAO said yes. I'll be sending those today.
He sounds so confident... says, "I'll call you after battle stations!!"
anybody else have any word on BS? OH and he mentioned that a lot of ppl received cookies and candy for Easter but it all got taken away!

I have enjoyed all the info this site has provided the last seven weeks and I'm sure there are Moms like myself...more to read than comment. My son is Ship 04/Div 162 and will be heading to Pensacola for A school. He has said there are several in his Division going and I wanted to let Moms/family know there is a group for IT Moms, and Cory Station A school which has wonderful information for the next phase of their military life. Good luck to all, and I can't believe they are almost done with Basic.

found this info on another group:
Captain's Cup - On the Saturday before Battle Stations, all divisions graduating together compete for the Captain's Cup. Captain's Cup is basically a field day, with competitions in sit ups, push ups, running, throwing, swimming, obstacle courses, relays, and more. It's a fun day, and winning the Captain's Cup is a matter of great pride to the winning division.

Battle Stations - In the last week before graduation, recruits have a final test…Battle Stations. Battle Stations is a twelve hour long simulation of battles, crises, and ship life. It's a make or break event. If the recruits pass, they graduate from boot camp, and are allowed to trade in their recruit cap for a Navy cap in a very moving ceremony.

Battle Stations takes place on The USS Trayer, a state of the art simulated 210 foot guided missile destroyer designed by Universal Studios. Special effects make the virtual reality experience look, feel, sound and smell like an actual ship. During their time on the USS Trayer, recruits will proceed through 17 different shipboard scenarios based on actual historical crises and events. As they go through Battle Stations, recruits draw on everything they have learned during boot camp.

Comment by Sailor Garrett's Mom DIV 158 on April 8, 2010 at 12:30pm
Pray for DIV 158 as they enter Battle Stations tonight. I am so looking forward to my call tomorrow. It will only be the 2nd call from my son. Got a letter yesterday and he is doing extremely well. He said they have a very busy week this week and then not so much next week. I can't wait to head that way next week. Good luck to all divisions and hope everyone gets a call!
