Thanks, I can't wait to see her again. I will be visiting her for spring break while you all are at PIR. So I am watching that count down clock very closely. And I am very sure your Sailor will be very handsome in his dress blues :-)

Tears to my eyes too Sherri :-) My sailor went to Pensacola for A-school. The first time she was allowed off base (in Uniform) she went to Walmart lol. An elderly lady was walking in and my daughter ran up and opened the door for her and waited for her to make her way in. She said "Thank you so much honey." Loran thought she was thanking her for holding the door until she asked if she could give her a hug and told her she really appreciated that she had made such an honorable decision in supporting and protecting our county. As she gave Loran a hug she said "I must say you sure are the prettiest Sailor I have ever seen" It was so sweet. Loran was so moved by her that she called me to tell about it before she even left the store..  Here is a pic of my sailor :-) I love the Dress White uniform the best for sure.

DIV 148 saw a video about 9/11 attacks.  My son said it is the one thing that really got to him.  A little girl lost her dad in the towers and the video talked about... "this is what you fight for everyday".  How proud they ALL must have felt to know how special they are to all Americans.

I see military all the time when I fly and I can't tell you how frequently strangers stop and thank these men and women for their sacrafices.  It is really beautiful to see.

Last Veterans day, I flew to DC and I was on the Honor Flight, which is a non for profit that takes veterans to the nations capital.  When we arrived there, our plane was hosed down by the fire department and EVERY man and woman (from ground crew to baggage handler) stopped to either salute the plane or held a flag.  It was one of the most moving times of my life and how proud I was to be part of a wonderful country.  When we exited the plane, there were over 100 people on the jet way and in the gate clapping, cheering, and holding signs.   If gives me a great feeling to know these veterans were are able to exprience the honor and respect they deserve!  And this too is why our future sailors should be proud!

Have a wonderful day...

Sherri

Ladies.. as for news to your SR.. you know them best on what they can handle...  I had the talk with my son before he left..and he only wanted to know if something was wrong with me, his sister or his dad...not the dog, not his grandparents.  Most of the SRs in our group were not kept up to date on news and ... still to this day my son is not watching much about it, because he has to keep his head in the game at his A school.  I think news about japan and libya are unsettling and hard to not want to understand why..and they dont have resources there to do any research.. i would limit any negative news unless it has to be..   all positive, jokes, i love you's...  letters from the dog, jokes about the navy or military in general, sundays cross word puzzle.. sneak them a few bandaids in the envelope for boot blisters, see if any others in their division are not getting letters and get that information and write them with jokes and stuff.   We had one girl in our division miscarry her baby.. she didnt tell him till graduation.  he suspected it but was glad she didnt tell him during that time.. afterall there is nothing he can do.    so its up to you on that sort of thing...  hang tough..lean on each other here..you will make some life long friends ... its a great site...

After visiting with the family. I heard (dont remember where) that the parents /wives of the GL's Aschoolers were allowed to take their items with them and have to give them when they go back to their Aschool. UNLESS, this was only true for the recruits that had overnights and were then able to take their things back?? Maybe since they dont do overnights anymore...that this isnt true?
