jena---thats funny...my son is only 19 and when he left for BC..he said the hardest part was going to be 'not laughing' when the RDC's screamed at him, but i think that quickly went away and was replaced with..'not pis**ng his pants' when it happened..LOL! That just goes to show you how the age difference factors in...:))

My husband wasn't told how many minutes he got. He was yelled at within five minutes. It is kinda funny that he gets yelled at and he is one of the oldest there, he is 30. He says he laughs inside when they are screaming like crazy at them all. LOL

dianne---its so true about the RDC's and phone calls. On one of my sons calls, he kept stopping in the middle of his sentences and yelling.."YES, CHIEF.." and i could hear all of the other recruits in the background yelling the same thing...I think the RDC was relaying how many more minutes they had to talk...:(

However many it was...(sigh)...it was NEVER enough..:))

On the phone calls...some of the phones are in poor condition....and calls get disconnected or you can barely hear your SR.  This happened when my sailor was there over a yr ago and from the comments I have read in the PIR groups, sounds like they haven't been fixed!  So hopefully your calls will come from a "working' phone!  Also, "When the RDCs speak, SRs listen!"  They know that when on the phones, as soon as they are told to get off, they must right away.  No time for long goodbyes...so just be prepared!

Jenacfs:  If he is not on a charter flight to FL, then you can meet him at the airport and visit with him there--even getting a gate pass from the airlines counter to wait at the gate with him.  Just know that they bus them out in the wee hours of the morning to wait for flights so you will need to get out there early!  If on a charter flight, then you will not get an airport visit with him, so pray for a commercial flight!

bn4givn:  Yes, they can take away scheduled calls for discipline reasons. Don't know if they do that with the mail, but know for sure with phone calls that it happens. One SR's error can cost the entire division phone calls.

And, yes, if a SR doesn't pass tests, they will be asmoed (setback) until they pass it. They then are put into another division, at same training they were at when asmoed, and therefore the PIR date is changed.  This requires a mandatory call home to notify family of PIR date change as soon as they are removed from the first division.  They then should call again when put into another division and the PIR date verified then.

juliea:  If your daughter is GradNGo to Great Lakes, she will move over there right after PIR, use her phone card to call you later, and you pick her up at the A School base (next to RTC). You should have Sat and Sun daytime with her, but she will have to return to base at night. They just changed the rule and no longer allow overnight visits as they used to.

Jenacsf- they don't tell them a lot about PIR or the flights afterwords. They want them to concentrate on the job at hand. Just keep sending him those encouraging letters and let him know how much you have learned form the moms on this site. Let him know that a day or two before PIR he will get his flight info and to be sure and write it down for you so you know which airport to go to and the flight time. Then you can meet him there. And don't worry, it will get better for him and all the others. They are almost finished with the hardest part now. After the halfway point there is such a change in them :-) And they may change in a lot of ways but they are still that same person you know and love and you will still see that part of him. And most likely he will have a new appreciation for you that you are going to love :-) Hang in there.

This group either has a lot of people from the West Coast or you guys are a bunch of night owls lol....
