Hey everyone- I'm new to this site, so I'm still getting used to it. My boyfriend is obviously currently still in BC with this PIR date. Ship09 Div139. I'm looking forward to finding out any info I can and also meeting people with the same PIR date and/or divisions! Does anyone know when they can start sending their letters? I'm getting kind of anxious to receive one.

Hello group, Not sure if I told this group about ANSWER - our SR specific letter writing group we started. We have had quite a few SR's names submitted and there has been overwhelming support with cards and letters written to them. So, if any of your SR's have or happen to mentioned that they know of someone getting very little to no mail please let us know. We have some really terrific people on standby just waiting for a name & address. You can either join and Send Message to Group or send the name and address to me by private message and we will send out the word. Remember some people are not members of N4M's,  and just don't understand how truly golden mail is to our future Sailors. I admit I did not and probably would not have known if not for NavyForMoms.com !

The first 2 to 3 weeks are definitely the hardest. My sailor refers to P days as the worst ever. But it will get better for you and your future sailor. Just hang in there and keep sending all the encouraging letters you can.

Thank you for your words of encouragement.  I don't let her know how bad I feel and of course I don't cry when I'm on the phone with her.  But it certainly does tear me up when I hear her crying.  I told her the time would go quickly and to stay strong, and of course that I love her.  I hope that is what she needed to hear.  It's so hard not talking to her or getting any of her letters.  She knew this would be hard for us both but I don't think she knew how hard.

sailormom-it is hard for them (as it is for us) to hear their loved ones voice for the first time. Ive heard alot of stories where the SR's return to their ships crying and upset after making that first phone call. They have a lot of anxiety built up in the first few weeks, and when they hear a familiar, loving voice, it seems to set the tears off. Just remember two things...one, she may have been upset at that moment, but its passed now...and two, when you get another call, try not to cry (i know its hard..lol), because if they hear you crying, they may start to cry. Just sound strong, caring, loving, etc...remind her how strong she is and how proud you are of her and try ending the conversation on an 'upbeat' note...(plus, no precious phone time will be used up with crying...lol)

Maybe go pick out a  'hang in there, you can do this' type card and send it to her for encouragement, it may make you both feel better..:))

Yep, sailormom.  I totally agree with Lala. That is exactly what happened...she was not free to talk to you as she wanted to with Navy personnel standing there.Try to keep your chin up...it really will get better...
