lbmom---it differs as to when they will know if they will be able to have the whole weekend or not. In my case, my son told me in his first 'real' phone call home that he was not a grad and go and even told me the date he would be leaving BC. Remember to ask you son in your letters and phone calls. They have so much to write and talk about that sometimes they forget to mention certain things or to answer certain questions..

I would imagine my son received his letter from me yesterday (Sunday), so I am hoping I get a letter from him real soon.  When would we have an idea if our recruit, soon to be sailor, will have the weekend free or would have to leave shortly after graduating?  I can't wait to see my son....I think just a letter would help.

sailormom, when they make those calls for info they usually have an RDC standing right with them. I am sure she was just wanting to talk to you and couldn't just "talk" Hang in there it won't be long now until you get a real phone call and she can talk about whatever she wants. :-)

My sailor called this morning looking for information.  She sounds so stressed and not herself.  I'm not sure if it's that she can't talk to me personally and hearing my voice makes her upset or what it is.  When she hung up the phone after a two minute conversation she was crying.  I feel so bad and empty.  Not sure what to do.  It's hard enough not having her here.  I always  try to be positive and not let her know how much I miss her.

sometimes there is not an actual graduation for A-school or C-school. It is often determined on how many are graduating at that time. If there are not very many they may not have a ceremony. It also has a lot to do with where the A-school or C-school is. My sailor is an AO and went to Pensacola for A-school. They didn't have a formal ceremony because it was a small class. Sometimes that have one and sometimes they don't. She went to C-school in VA and didn't have one there either. I was hoping there would be at both. I did go see her during A-school and she fot to come home on leave right after A-school ended.

Wow....looks like there is a lot of submariners in this group. I think there were only two of us in my sons PIR group. Im glad there is a lot of schooling for our guys, it gives us time to adjust. Its going to take awhile for it to sink in that they are going to be deployed. I joined the BESS/Groton Aschool group and the SECF/ET/FT group after my son PIR'd , but you ladies can join them now and get a head start. There seems to be more wives/GF's on there than moms, and they have a lot of info about moving to be closer with your husbands, transferring jobs/schools, etc...

Ok, those of you that are already making reservations...did you go through a company like priceline for a pkg deal or make them all seperate?
Comment by janlee on March 6, 2011 at 8:45pm

leslio--GOOD...lol one more thing you dont have to worry about..:))

cjasmin--Yes, im pretty sure they all go to Groton. That is where they will attend BESS (Basic Enlistment Submarine School)..they learn  the ins and outs of subs, have more training (similar to Battlestations), they learn decompression, escaping, etc...that lasts for 8 weeks and then they move onto their next phase of schooling/training. My son is going for FT or ET, so has two more training schools to attend up there before he even starts his Aschooling. Is your son going into subs?
