I am thrilled that this group is back. I wondered what happened when the group I was in had been deleted. I was afraid I had lost some people I had just met.  Thank you Leslieo for sending me the link.  We made our reservation at the Hampton but for one night since we are only 1 1/2 hours away.  I thought it would be nice for our son to have a nice long hot shower if he wishes to do that.  Last time I was in Great Lakes five years ago for my oldest we spent the whole day in Chicago, first at the Navy Pier and then walked blocks and blocks to the Rain Forest Cafe. We had a great time, but did not get a hotel last time and wished we had. Although I wish I knew if my son will be staying the weekend or will be a GradNGo.  I am so anxious to get my first letter.

Yes, bn4gvn:  Flying to Milwaukee always seems to be cheaper, it is straight interstate into GL, and you miss the Chicago traffic!  It is just a few minutes longer to drive from Chicago...but I understand a much more relaxing drive. We dealt with the Chicago traffic....grrrrr....but it really wasn't too bad when we were there.

The only warning is this:  If any of you will have GradNGo sailors who will be leaving town on Sat. and you plan to go wait at the airport with them, they usually fly from Chicago.  So make sure your return flight from Milwaukee is either Sunday (what we recommend just in case the GradNGo thing isn't absolute!)...or late enough in the day Sat. so as not to miss any time visiting with your sailor in Chicago.

April- I have been doing the same thing! I am usually a liat minute person but have been looking and there re some GREAT deals out there right nowI want to book early but am afriaad of the same things you are.Don't know if anyone else has heard this but I was told to check on flying into Milwaukee instaed of Chicago. There is about a $60 difference per ticket and you don't even have to drive through Chicago. It's only 45-50 miles from the trainging center and I was told it's alomst like rural driving. That's where I'm flying into...then satying in either Waukeegan or right near the base

AprilRDMom:  My son was asmoed (setback) in the 3rd week of training...and it still worked out.  Yes, he moved back one PIR group (one week) and we did have to pay a flight change fee (but flights were cheaper on the new dates so not a bad fee), but it worked out. My son actually liked his 2nd division better than the 1st one he was in....so whatever is part of the plan for your SR is "all good!"  Hang in there!

Thank you so much for starting this back up! I thought I was going crazy when I started looking for it and it was gone.

April--hahaha...you sound like my oldest son, he worries about things that havent even happened yet. There is always a chance that something may happen, but it is rare that it effects their PIR date. There are  injuries and sicknesses, and failures, but the RDC's are pretty good with making sure the recruits finish on time. Also, the hotels are very lenient with cancellations, most give you right up until the 'day/hour of' to change reservations or to cancel. If youre driving...its even better, that way you dont have the pressures of a flight schedule. It will all fall into place...

Thanks for the smile, Jessica :) Trying to plan for PIR -- so difficult!  So many variables -- if they get hurt or sick or fail a test, their PIR may get delayed.  Also, are they grad and go....which may change last minute anyway!  UGH -- I'm a planner, can you tell?  Just complainin'.
