AirportExpress.com has a shuttle from airport to the GL area.  Not sure of the expense though.

val:  What I heard is that, yes, their paychecks would be temporarily stopped...however, since they get paid on the 1st and 15th (although some banks like NAVY FED and USAA have the money in there on the 30th/31st and 14th), they will receive their pay through April 8th (day of possible shutdown)....and then their pay will be held until this thing is cleared up.  They will then get all of their held pay.

I don't read the paper or listen to National news very often and I am also in the process of moving so don't have much time.  I had a co-worker ask me just now how the government shutdown would effect our guys and I did not know how to respond to that.  Can anyone help me?  Also, my son has not talked at all about any of his tests.  I am assuming if things were not going well at this point I would get a call...right?????  Thank you as always ladies...  :-)

When I talked to Sarge, I was kind of expecting the $75 fare, for one person.  It is more than 30 minutes from the Airport to the Great Lakes Area.  If you find a shuttle that does runs from the Airport to GL, then that would probably be the way to go.  But I have not heard of one.  You could try to coordinate with others flying it, but that could be difficult.  Getting a rental may be inexpensive- but gas is not cheap either.  No real good solution:(  unless they move the airport closer to GL, lol.

Prayers for all of you as you wind down towards Battlestations...and the worry that comes with it.  Pray for strength for your SRs, good health, and determination to get through it!  It is a very emotional time for all of you on here...believe me...Lala, Jessica, janlee, and I remember vividly!  But It is amazing what these SRs will accomplish with the encouragement from the RDCs who want them to become sailors (and our prayers!)...so deep breaths, ladies!  It won't be long before you are in those bleacher seats, cheering on your new sailors!

Rose- just take him with you and make sure he has the proper ID. You have 11 div graduating and there is room for 14 div or more. So there are extra seats. When my daughter had PIR there were 13 div graduating. We took 4 extra people and everyone got in without a problem. There are lots of recruits who may only have 1 or 2 people coming and sadly there are recruits there who won't have any family coming. They may or may not make him wait until everyone on the list gets in. Once the majority of people get inside (line waiting to get in slows down) they will let the extra guests in. Sometimes, especially if you get there early they don't even make them wait. I have been on this site for almost a year and I have never heard of anyone who was not able to get into the ceremony hall. I really don't think you will have a problem getting him in.

You're right Odi.  I guess as parents we never stop worrying.  But, I will be glad when bootcamp is over.  What a rollercoaster ride!  I'm sure we're stressing way more than our recruits.

I have not received a letter this week either.  I am still very concerned about my sons leg.  I told him in my letter ask for some motrin and get it done.  I am so hoping he is ok and his graduation is not delayed.
