Ragdoll - I cracked up when you posted what your son said.  I didn't want to tell texasmom that, but I am glad you did.  Heartfelt, that one!  I am not posting what my son said..................I am just shaking my head.  Sometimes, they are just too much like me!

My son used the words hard and challenging...not quite what he would write.  The rest of it sounded like him...like being homesick and about loving his girlfriend.  They must all learn to put the line through the zeros because my son did the same thing.

Yes, I noticed a change in handwriting as well.  He put a line through all of his zeros but some of the words he used like "I miss and love you dearly" seemed a bit off but I will wait for his own letter.  Thanks!

LOL Mumz! I am with you. While my son always printed legibly, this handwriting is almost a typing font it is so perfect! Amazed me!

Also - my son's note was definitely from him. Especially the part when he wrote..  "BTW... BOOTCAMP BLOWS!!"  LOL I laughed so hard!

Oh - I have figured out why it takes so long to get the first letter - when I got that envelope in the mail - I did NOT recognize the handwriting.  It was so.....well.......LEGIBLE!  The Navy is a miracle place.  He took 24 years of chicken scratch and changed it to something a human can read.  WOW!  I guess that takes time.

texasmom - what my son wrote on the bottom of his form letter is TOTALLY his own.  I am more than a little worried about the salty language sailors use - he used to keep it down around me......lol.  Seriously - it was him.  He just wrote what he thought and I cracked up.

texasmom,  Navy Corpsmen support both the Navy and the Marines.  They call it blue or green.  So, anywhere the Marines go, so go our corpsmen.

Oh yes, it is very long away. I can't wait to see him. I read on another group that a corpman, (That is what my so is going in for) was shipped to afghanistan and he was injured. I didn't know our Navy guys went to Afghanistan.  I must be unaware of where are they send our guys.  That has kinda put a damper on my day.  I will continue to pray and not think of the neg, maybe that will brighten my day. I have to go for now my daughter wants me to take her to ride her horse.  Maybe that will get my mind off of it.

Texasmom,

I'm with you...yes, one of the hardest parts of this ordeal is the "not knowing" on a day to day basis. If they're having a bad day, you can't make their favorite cookies to cheer them up, can't give them a hug and tell them, "I'm here, tell me if there's something I can do to make this better". You're NOT there for them, we're at home (here) for them, but for some of us, that's a very, very long ways away!

texasmom:  Those of us veterans have all "been there."  I thought I was so ready for my son to go (23 at the time)...but cried like a baby on the way home from dropping him off.  Then I found that I watched the phone like a hawk....mailbox...and would do the happy dance when hearing from him!  Lack of communication with our children is VERY HARD for us moms.  Like they are ripped away from us!  You are not alone in your feelings here....all can relate.  So use this board to vent if you are having a sad day...or a happy day!  We are hear to help you get through it...or to celebrate with you!
