Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

Oh that sounds great.  This is just the first time he has been away were I am unable to check on him if I wanted to and it is such a different feeling.  I am sure he is fine. He is a strong person. This is only the 10th day so he has a long way to go. I hope it goes by fast. I pray for him every night.

texasmom:  Just remember....bootcamp is a very up and down experience for them...you may get a letter that is very negative, makes you sad, and then find out that by the time you got it, your SR was doing much better.  By about the 4th week of actual training, the reports become much more positive!  They then have their "reward" in sight and head for the finish line!

Oh, thank you all so much. When my son wrote at the bottom of the form letter that he was doing good, I just wanted to know that he was doing good. It all sounded like him, with a little grown up about him, which I was hoping for when he left to go to bc. :) I was so excited to hear from him.  I can't wait until I get another longer letter. That will be wonderful. Then maybe he can say more.

Also, I believe that the words that your SRs wrote on the bottom of the form letter are their own...I don't believe that paper is checked.  But remember...when they write these, they are still in "shock" phase of bc....it is a pretty abrupt awakening for them when they arrive up there...lots of yelling, assembly line processing, threats to motivate them to work hard, etc....as their personal letters start to come, you will see more of him/her in their words, even though you may detect a big step in maturity!

texasmom:  There is no guarantee for extras, but we veterans know after having been on these sites for as long as many of us have been what usually happens.  Even in a PIR group with 14 divisions, we were told that all extras got in.  I know divisions for this group are not on the RTC site yet, so let's wait and see how many you have even though I think Jessica has that figured out!  It is well worth it for extras to make the trip so they can visit with their new sailors.  The worst that can happen is that they will wait in the Welcome center until it is over....And, yes, you are correct.  RTC will only guarantee that 4 get in to ensure that all families can have 4 if they would like.  But as you will find out, MANY sailors have no family or friends who can get to PIR.  Very sad....but that is why there are extra spaces.

@ texasmom, I felt that what my son wrote at the bottom was not his own words.  He used words that did not sound like him.

Does anyone here know if what the guys are writting at the bottom of the form letter is being read by others? Or do they have freedom to really write what is from their hearts.

Good Morning all,  Lala commented that we have a small group so we can take extras. How do you know this information? I have extra family also and was wondering when we would know how many could come.  They say only 4. Anyone has information on this

Jessica:  PIR 3/4 has 3 900 divisions.  Funny....because they are a small group!

And...let's hope that when RTC updates the upcoming grad list, they put the correct divisions in!  Remember a few weeks ago, they had one of them all mixed up and had to correct it.
