My daughter had stationery, stamps and an address book with her when she got to BC. I also put a couple notes of encouragement and a couple of pictures in her bible and none of these items came back in the box......YAAAYY!

I love the idea of having friends kids write generic letters - I may have some of the kids from church do that.  I would love to blanket their division with letters of encouragement!

Ragdoll - we will have to have coffee sometime.

I can't remember if I have posted this here or not but you can send envelopes that are already addressed and stamped to your recruit once you have the address. You can even make labels to make it easier on you. It really does take them a lot of time just to fill out an envelope when you consider how little time they have to write. Especially if they are writing to more than one person. I did this for my recruit  and she and her close friends were so excited they asked me to make some labels for them too lol. You can always add a little note that says this will give you more time to write me lol :-)

Mumz - you are so right. Not hearing is actually good news. I have written at least a letter a day for every day that he has been gone. Sometimes two. I took advice from JessicasMom and started looking at jokes and writing a joke a day for him. Sometimes I put it in the middle of the letter, sometimes at the beginning, and sometimes I end that way. Before I send the letter each day, I read the joke of the day to some gals at the office. They have laughed so hard that it makes me feel good. Now I add in some little jokes that others want to include. I have some friends putting projects for their kids that were planning on writing to my son. I have now asked them to write generic letters that I can send to other recruits that may not have anyone to write to them.

I have to admit that I have been going through an especially difficult time. I have had some troubles on the job front lately that are adding extra stress. Also, my boyfriend is not used to seeing me so rattled and I think it confuses him and has him almost difficult to talk to. So - this has to be one of the most difficult times that I can remember. I only hope that those daily jokes are helping my son as much as they lift me up in the middle of the day when I seem to need it.

Having all of you to chat with and lean on has been helpful. I thank you all for being here and providing a shoulder even if you are really here to get a shoulder. It seems to be the right place to be!

That's the spirit! :)   I've sent my daughter about 10 letters, cards, some question answer letters about bootcamp,  and a picture of her best friend and baby girl that just had on Valentine's day!  When I held her it brought tears to my eyes remembering when my daughter was a baby.....such an enjoyable memorable time :)
