Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

OK girls - here is the deal - we don't have the letters but we also didn't get a phone call from them with bad news so I think we need to be POSITIVE and lift each other up. We can do this! My son is older, has done 5 years of college. I am pretty used to his being gone but this is really different! This time I can't pick up the cell and check on him. This time I can't look on facebook and get status updates. This time I am just waiting. But we can do this and help each other get thru!
I am such a little cheerleader here! The letters will come. Some more than others. I cannot imagine my son writing more than 6 words. He won't tell me anything. It's fine - I just want to know he is ok. And, since I haven't heard otherwise, I am assuming he is!
So - how was your day? How many letters have you sent? How did you make it fun and uplifting for your son or daughter? I printed some pics of his sisters and of his dogs. I got on Onion.com (satire news) and printed some goofy articles that he will like. I sent a phone card. I told him all sorts of stupid pick up lines from the Senior Men competition that his sister went to. What ever. I didn't tell him I was having a hard time - he doesn't need that.
Tell me something good here, ladies! :D
A couple of more reminders to add to Jessica's: Also, Please don't use anyone's LAST name on here (of the SRs). When you start hearing from your SRs, they may mention last names of bunkmates and you may want to know if their families are on this site. In that case, you can hit "Send message to group" at the top and ask privately that way. Please don't post any last names on this board! Against Navy security.
Also, once you get your form letter with the password in it (for your PIR gate pass), please do not share or post this password. We had an issue with a group where one lady posted it on the board...uh oh. Major Navy security breach...the form letter is very clear that you are not to share it as that is your "permissioin" to be on base. So protect it!
Denise - NOTHING more for me yet. I am sad too!!

Jessica,
Thank you so much for the info about the PIR group. Also, thank you so much for all of the time you put into supporting others, as well as providing us with so much helpful and useful information! My son, as you've seen is in 11/128, arrived on 02/09/11. Bless you and have an excellent day!
Mel
great idea, Lala - I was asking my son for names of people not getting mail but better to put notes in his and have him give them to those sailors.
Ragdoll - I was cracking up thinking about the postoffice or fedex or ups office near GL - those stinky boxes come thru there on a regular basis - imagine driving the truck with all of those boxes - hazard pay needed!
