An idea for all of you. This is something I did when my sailor was at bootcamp. Write an extra letter of encouragement and send it with a letter to your sailor and tell him/her to give it to a sailor who is not getting any mail. It is sad how many are there and have no one writing them or for them to write to. I even got letters back and then began to write those sailors a few times a week and I got to meet them at PIR. They hung out with us at the mall too. It was awesome. It felt like I had 3 daughters graduating that day.

I have a 17 yr old son who is planning to join the Navy as well and I know what his socks are like after one day. I plan to have him wear old sock and shoes and toss those before he mails everything else back to me. I am sure the Fed-Ex guy would be very happy I did that lol.

Denise - Too funny. I wrote before that one of my cats jumped into the box once i removed everything and her nose immediately started dripping! Poor thing - it was just too potent for her. I agree - must have been VERY nervous. I was so tempted to throw the undies and socks in the trash but decided that the washing machine could handle them.

Lala - I bet mothers would PAY if they could find a way to inject thoughtfulness into their kids (sons in particular). That would be like bottling up a child's energy though I am afraid and mostly unobtainable! Then again - if someone had to create it for them, it wouldn't feel special to us moms. It means something when they actually do think of things like that.

Mumz - whether your hubby or not - it had to take some planning on your son's part and that makes him special!

Thanks Lala!  That is a photo of my middle child - I played with Photoshop on it - it is really cool if you zoom waaaaaaaaay in - you can see our backyard reflected in her pupil!

My son and his dad won't be famous - he is a CTR and I have to be very careful what, if anything I post about him.  But he is a great guy.  We are quite proud of him.

Well bless his dad too then mumzie. And just to let you know I thought it was very creative that your pic is of an eye and your post says "look look" lol It got my attention.

Now if we could figure out a way to get a message to all the young men and women in DEP that they may become quite famous on N4M's if they think ahead and plan gifts or flowers for birthdays, anniversary's, and other special occasions while they are away at bootcamp. Major brownie points for them lol.

Oh - and all you moms that think my son is some sweet guy - you are right - he really is BUT I think his dad put him up to it..........it really isn't like him to actually plan ahead - for ANYTHING. He is very kind and generous but not really a forward thinker. LOL!

Look look - I got an address! We called the recruiter. Yippee! First stack of letters going in the box tonight!

Proudnavymom-

How did you find out your son's PIR date? Did you find out ship and div #? When did your child leave?

I hate this unknown and my son's recruiter didnt have a date as of late yesterday afternoon.

mumziepooh:  I agree with Lala....what a wonderful son to be thinking of Valentines day and you....before he left.  He must have known it would be a bit hard for his mom....what a sweetheart!
