Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

j4smom~hubby and I got a good laugh about "keeping us informed".  Communication with parents (he was 18 when he left~turned 19 there)has never been his strong point.  Had to laugh!  But, you are right~he did tell us some things.  He actually does keep us more informed with a 1 page (usually single sided) letter each week, than he did when he was home!  For anyone who reads the comic "ZITS"...that seems to have been our life!  We send him that comic strip every once in a while.  We laugh~he probably just doesn't get that it must be written about him!

Thanks ntz4laa,  I was just wondering about that, and I got a letter from my son today and he didn't mention CC. Just said he has been studying alot and had a busy week coming up ( I  am assuming he means this week)

Yes, they still do Captain's Cup.  Captain's Cup is held Saturday morning and does not interfere with Battle Stations on Sunday night.  Because of CC, they don't run BS on Friday or Saturday night.

What happens if they are doing Battlestations on Sunday? Do they get to do the Captain's Cup?

Captains Cup, this Sat. for this group, is an athletic competition between the divisions.  There is an all-male division winner and an integrated (male/female) division winner.

KIWI:  Hall of Fame is the honor, but they get the Hall of Fame flag to symbolize it!
Comment by diannep on March 31, 2011 at 10:33pm
...and yes, they got an extra hour of liberty time on PIR Day (he was a Sat GradNGo so that was his only day of liberty).
Comment by diannep on March 31, 2011 at 10:32pm
Hall of Fame flag is for division who keeps perfect marks during the entire 8 weeks.  My son's division was very honored to get this when he was there.  It is quite an honor!

I don't think you ladies will have a problem getting gate passes at the Chicago airports to wait with your new sailors, but if you do, take it from another N4Mom who had an issue today at another airport when her son was returning to school from leave.  She was told No, no gate passes to stay at the gate with her son.  She didn't accept that and went over to the USO and they said absolutely, she should be able to get one.  So she talked to a supervisor who gave her one (with ID) immediately.  So...if you are told "NO", please ask for a supervisor or contact the USO there for help...no matter what airport you are in at any time.
