Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

diannep - Lets suppose this guy flys to GL.  Do you think the TSA will allow him to fly if his ID doesn't match his boarding pass?  Heck, his name isn't even close.  I know if you forget to add the middle initial on your ticket, and your offical ID has it on there they can be hard @sses and not let you go.  You can have your entire family there vouching for you, but guess what, their (the family) word is nothing.

Now granted the GL PIR is not like the TSA, however, during the times we are in (Libya)  I just want NMo1G to know that she has other options.  If they allow the BF in, then that is great.  Heck I all about making stuff easy.  But, you should always be ready for a second plan in case the 1st one doesn't pan out.

What I don't want if for the BF to just give up.  No, you fight this with every option available.  Just like you said, if he has a birth certificate, then bring it.  But have all the bases covered....

Again,  I am only an expert with real (non-boot camp) Navy stuff.  Both you and lala know way more stuff about boot camp and PIR's than I will ever know.  That's why NMo1G needs to listen to you guys.  I'm only here to point out that he needs to think of other ways to get in.

Frankly, I'd love to here how this whole story works out...It will be interesting....

But why would he be a standby person on the list if he IS the person and the family members there with him can verify that?  Maybe what she said about bringing his mom's birth certificate or something showing ID with the same last name as on the list would help.  Probably should cover all bases with as much as ID as he can find!  :-)

diannep - This is what I'd be worried about.  His name is not even similar to what was put on the list.  If they can switch names back and forth, then what's the use of having a list?   What really concerns me for this group is the stuff going on in Libya.  But I truly trust your's and Lala knowledge, you guys know this stuff a heck of alot better than me...  What NavyMomof1Girl needs to remember, is no matter what, if they don't allow him to enter because his name is not on the list, he still can be a "Stand-by" person if there is room.  So don't give up....

All others - Remember, Battle Stations is not the end of the line for your sailors.  They still must maintain their military bearing (ie not goofing around).  My sons unit lost 37 people 2 days prior to PIR because of what they did.  Many of the sailors families were already traveling to Great Lakes and had no idea they wouldn't be at PIR.  Bottomline, tell them not to mess up in their final week, they will set them back...

I disagree, Craig.  In light of what Lala posted, where they switched a name on the list at PIR and had no problems, I think that NavyMomofOnly1Girl will have no problem getting him in. As long as he is with the "group!"

KIWI:  They have this group mixed up with 4/1 which has only 7 divisions.  Just a mistake.

Comment by diannep on March 29, 2011 at 10:43pm
lidsterzoo: I don't believe I have ever heard of them switching to another division in their same PIR group?  Weird.  But being in 122, he would have gone in the first group of BattleStations so would have completed PFA and other tests earlier than maybe some of the later divisions. Other than that...I can't imagine why they moved him just 4 divisions back.  Strange.  Usually they move them out of the entire PIR group and they rejoin a division later in another PIR group.  Maybe he is just joking with you?  Do you think?

Ragdollrae..a new camera!  I just told my hubby that we need to get a new one...and what better time than now...just hope we can learn how to use it before next Friday!  The excitement is really starting to take over.  I will have to write my son and let him know that I will try very very hard not to hug to tightly and not to cry to much.

My Mother reminded me that when her and my dad came to Ft Jackson to see me graduate from Basic Training (many many years ago)...that after the ceremony was over, and they (family/parents) were brought to a waiting room for us...that as soon as I saw her..I yelled..."mama..mama.."...and I just got to them and cried and cried.  She said she remembers it like it was yesterday (ok...it was 1983)

I am so excited to see my son!!
