Ozzy, you could ask the hotel if they have a shuttle to-from the airport.

Somehow the image of a shuttle roaming back and forth -- well, I have an odd sense of humor. I'm picturing a nature documentary: "and here we see the noble shuttle, roaming its native habit, the vast lands between hotel and RTC ..."

Hi Moms!  If I book a hotel with a shuttle and do not rent a car, do we just take a taxi from the airport?  Or is there a shuttle for that, as well?

Also, If my son is with us at the hotel and he needs to get back to base for curfew, can he take the shuttle?  Or if he is on base and wants to come see us, does the shuttle roam/rotate back and forth so he can just hop on?

Yay! I got the form letter today. It's very encouraging, my SR wrote, "Hi family! Don't worry about me, they're taking good care of me..."  Sound like he's adjusting well, hope that's true for all the SR's.

I've been getting jokes from   http://www.ahajokes.com/joke_of_the_day.shtml

Lala... congratulations and best of luck to your daughter!

foreverMom:  We saw the OUTDOOR pool when we stayed at Residence...but you say they have an INDOOR pool also?  We did enjoy our stay there very much.  Took the PIR shuttle from there too with no issues.  We used our AAA discount too which was nice!

Robin you are very welcome. That is what we are here for. :-) This site is probably the only reason I survived my daughter being gone to bootcamp. Who by-the-way made E-3 yesterday :-) She takes the test in Sept for Petty Officer :-) I am so so proud of her.

(((((((Nicksmum)))))))  My daughters recruiter was VERY personable and nice.. he called me w/her address.. hang in there!!

For those who asked about Holiday Inn.. I waivered b/t Holiday and Res. Inn... I kinda liked the shuttle.. but then if there are alot of people, some said it was late in getting everyone there... and I didn't want to worry about that.. then I had to figure out how to get 9 people back to the hotel in a taxi.. nahhhhh I'll wait in line w/the car.  Holiday has the 2 room suite.. has a king, queen, sofa bed.. they have a hot continental b'fast and indoor pool.. that was the deciding factor for me.. we are taking our 5 kids, so I wanted something for them to do.  It was $144 a night and we can cancel up to 6PM.. so no lock in.  :)  My parents got 2 queens for $99... they are SUPER friendly and helpful on the phone.. tell them you are going for grad. and they give you their "navy rate".. :)  HTH!

JennSHIP!  ROTFL.. that is funny!

nicksmum:  Good times are ahead for you, so hang in there...I think that RTC discourages everyone from writing before they have that form letter address.  What we veterans usually advise is to write many letters, and address them all when the form letter arrives...then mail all at once.  But we realize that many want to take a chance and write to the recruiter's address, if they received one.....get your letters written, and be ready to slap on that address and mail them.  You will put a big smile on your SR's face when he gets them all at once!

Nicksmum all of us are thinking of you and sending good thoughts I just know you will receive something soon.  As a mother I can really understand how you feel.  This is so hard.  Keep your chin up and I agree with Robin Laughter is the best medicine. We need some JOKES!  Good Thoughts coming your way!

diannep and Lala, thanks so much for all the advice, it's very helpful :)

nicksmum, I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time with your local recruiters. Ours were really great to work with, but I still haven't gotten the form letter or real letter, yet, either... hang in there, we'll all get through this.

On my way home from work this evening I was thinking... as usual.... and decided that laughter IS the best medicine. So I plan to send funny stuff all the time to my SR to try to keep his spirits up, and try to keep myself laughing, too, to get through this. If I don't, I'm afraid I'll bawl for 7 more weeks!

Thanks to everyone for sharing :)
