MySonTheNuke: Thanky you so much for posting that info. I will send my son his last letter tomorrow... : ( It is bittersweet.. I wrote him two or three times a day... I would forget to tell him something in the first letter so I would just start another one. I know he got a laugh out that and it felt like he was at home and me rambling and back tracking on a story I was telling him.. : ) I feel the same sadness you do about saying good-bye again. IT wont be as painful as boot-camp but all the same I am still not bringing him home with me and resuming our old life as a family... I hope we have the chance to meet you at the meet and greet Thursday night.. Thanks again for the post...

My Son the Nuke - that information is so helpful, wish I would of known that before my son's PIR. We stopped writing a full week before because we thought they'd just be returned. I recommend you past your comment on the Boot Camp Moms site as I think lots of people would appreciate the info. Thanks for doing all the research on it too! I can pay you back by answering PIR questions if you like!!!

Hello to All,

I am late to the party, but wanted to share information that I Finally located written by the RTC Command Master Chief on his Comment Pages regarding 'Forwarding Mail'. I have copied & pasted his response below:

"At 1:23pm on February 25, 2010, RTC Command Master Chief said…
Any mail not deliverable due to transfer will be forwarded to the next duty station. This will occur throughout the Sailor's career.
If you do not want the mail forwarded, I recommend you cease sending mail about a week to ten days (depending upon how far from Great Lakes you reside) prior to the Sailor's transfer date."

This is helpful to me because I do not want to stop writing my son until he asks me to stop writing! I am hopeful that those last couple of letters will eventually find him in South Carolina & he'll be reminded of his accomplishments these last 8 weeks in the face of the next challenging phase of journey.

Spending so much time each & every day writing to him has been both painful & cathartic. I am certain communication will become more normalized through phone calls & emails, however, I believe there is a preciousness to a handwritten letter that is uniquely heartfelt. My goal is to continue sending 'snail mail' to my son... although, it certainly won't be every day as it has been since the morning he left - ha, ha!

Like all of you, I am beyond the beyond to hug him, kiss him, see him smile, hear him laugh & listen to each & every one of the stories he has to tell of this "adventure"! I have been unable to contain my tears the last couple of days. It will be such a relief to see him in 6.5 days, yet I am already feeling sad to say goodbye to him again.

Jenn: Isnt that precious you get to hand him it yourself.. : ) I wrote my son a letter and walked through the years of his life that brought him to this moment. I told him I am sad for all the last's.. The last time he picked me a handful of dandelion's and thought it was the greatest free flower ever. The last time I read a Dr. Suess book to him and the last time he let me kiss his boo-boos and my kiss had this amazing instant healing affect. I cried as walked down the hallways of my heart of our life together... : ) I know what you are feeling.. To see them again is going to be such an over-powering emotional moment..

Costello's mom: The SAILOR call is going to be such a great moment for us all. The anticipation of when that call will come.. I know after BS they go and shower and eat and I think do some other things.. I am so hoping that call comes at noon... Anytime past that is going to keep me hanging by the roof on my fingertips.. : )

Thank you, Valerie. I ordered "Boot Camp Graduation Cards" from this website today and they're supposed to be mailed first class on Monday so hoping I get them in time before my husband and daughter leave on Thursday. I thought they're cute: LINK
