@CrazyNavyMom: quick question; how late would you recommend being able to get a decent hotel for PIR? My mother-in-law isn't sure if she is driving/flying/or able to come at all, and I'm concerned about her ability to get a hotel room.
I am booking mine already because some friends of mine are staying at the Candlewood Suites, but I'm worried that if we wait too long to decide, we might be stuck with no hotel, especially since we have so many divisions graduating on the same day...
Hey all..Im an oldie!! My son graduated in March.. You guys are so lucky you will atleast have warm weather at PIR.. lol. I know about now you start living for those letters... but as my son told me, he lived for the letters too. I sent him pictures of things and people... i just printed them on regular paper so he could throw them away without feeling guilty, of course he didnt throw them away. Later on in his stay I sent him a large manilla envelope addressed to me, with 4 stamps on it so he could send home all the things piling up. I also printed off jokes off the internet about military... I sent to him, as well as a few freinds he had that weren't getting mail. I printed pages out of puzzle books, and attached the answer guide to it.. Writing is a thing most of us are no longer use to... its hard.. so write a letter from the cat, dog, chicken..whatever.. and by all means, answer your phone no matter what it shows.. I missed my first call...
start getting ready now for PIR. Our group was very close and we all purchased the memory ribbons from LALA.. it was cool, cause at graduation we could see who all was from Navy 4 Moms...just find ribbons. I just added my ribbon to my sons scrapbook. Lala lurks around here somewhere...she has pictures... she is one of us.. been there done that.. also.. wanted to tell you about taxi cabs...omg, the live to suck your money. There is a man named Sarge that can help you with transportation up there.. I will locate his number and post it in a bit...
@Meruhnavywife - Thank you once again for a great message! I've been telling myself all along that, no news is good news. I choose to "connect with a positive vision." Being positive keeps me sane. I miss him so much. Only 38 days to go!
I know everyone is discouraged by no letters/no phone call. Yes, no phone call can be bad, no letters can suck, but if something bad happened (like, getting sick, or something that would prevent them from going through boot camp) you would know immediately.
My mom was worried because I hadn't had a phone call from my husband, but my sister-in-law had several calls from my brother; I reminded her that with the exception of the first phone call, the rest were "I'm sick in quarters."
They may have lost privileges for their phone calls (which does stink), but losing privileges isn't something that would prevent them from getting through boot camp on time. Being SIQ for an extended period of time, not passing tests, these are things that would cause your recruit to be ASMO'D and you would receive a call if they were, because it would likely affect their graduation date.
Getting in trouble is part of boot camp. Getting yelled at and told that you're a piece of shit, is part of boot camp. Losing privileges (with the opportunity to earn them back) is part of boot camp. No news is still good news, just tough to deal with.
Just over 5 weeks left :)
I have a question for everybody.....where is everybody from?????
we are in Texas - Dallas area
