@reenis: plan on dinner with them, not lunch. My sister-in-law and mother didn't realize how long it would take, but I explained that GL A schoolers pack and move their belongings after PIR, and have some paperwork to do as a result of possibly starting class on Monday (or starting watch duty or some other training). You should have them all weekend after PIR though, most A schoolers starting out won't have duty starting until Monday after PIR.

Also, just like with every other A school, despite the fact that they had to go immediately, classes may not start until weeks after they arrive while their class waits to fill up.

Happy easter to you all-I know today we are missing them but they are in our hearts always

Happy Easter to everyone!  I know my Lord became even more special to me when my son went off to boot camp in Nov 2009.  Don't know how I would have gotten through that without my faith!

Hope you all have a very special day!

reenis:  It takes a while for them to move over to GL.  I just read on another PIR site that one lady didn't get to pick up her sailor until around 4:30 (PIR is over at 10:00 and they move over shortly after that).  But hopefully you will get all day Sat and Sun with your sailor, if there is no "watch" duty.

zmommaopoindexter:  As you have quickly found out, having a child away in military bootcamp is totally different than having them away for college, camp, or any other place.  In the age of technology that we are in, where we are used to "instant contact" with our loved ones through cells and computers, it is very odd and frightening to have that contact gone (it comes back in A School!  yah!).  And it's not like we can call anyone to see how they are doing. The "unknown" that our SRs go through in bootcamp is the hard part.  Are they ok?  Are they sad?  Do they have regrets?  Are they sick?  Do they miss home?  All questions that each of us have asked or will ask in the future.

Try to be comforted by this:  They are "safe," they are being fed healthy food, three times a day, they have a safe place to sleep, they are being mentored, their health is being monitored and there is treatment there for them if needed...and most importantly, they are being turned into sailors and growing up!  The process itself is not easy for them, and I'm sure we ladies don't want to know all of the gritty details (my son told me some, but not all, when he was there!).  Just try and focus on PIR.  Because that is a day where all of your current concerns fade...and you are just bursting with pride when you see that first division march into the PIR hall after the BIG DOOR rolls up.

You will find great comfort on this site.  Once the phone calls start (even though few) and the letters start, you will feel better. Just be forewarned:  They may write or call on a "down" day. Know that they don't "stay" there...bc is an emotional journey of ups and downs for them and for you all.  Jessica, Lala, Betsy, janlee, ochaos and I have all been throught this and we know there is an end to bc and a wonderful reunion.

So hang in there and vent on here whenever you need to!  You will find the ladies on this site are wonderful to "pick you up" and help you get into a better place!

Happy Easter to all of you.  I know you will be missing you SR as I will be missing mine.  I am glad they get to go to church.  Heck I guess getting up in tile for sunrise service will not be a problem..lol!  Can't wait to meet you all.  God Blesss!

I have a SR in this group-he is a little older than most of the recruits I saw at his MEPS when he shipped out, has been a long distance away at school the past 2 1/2 years and I still have this emotion that I have not experienced before-I think that it is that I can't just pop a text or email to him on a whim.  I have reservations and plans all in place but have seen that it may be a little premature but work schedules had to be arranged so I pray that he graduates on June 03 as planned.  No phone call or letters yet but I'm not too anxious about that-I've seen a lot; "no news is good news'.  Glad to see our division!

Hello and welcome to all!!  I feels like days since I have been online. The Fundraiser project I was working on for the last 6 months is finally over!!!  It happened today and it was very successful!!!  But I have missed reading all the coments and the support you guys and gals give without even realizing your doing it!!

Be sure to read through all the discussions above and RSVP for the Meet N Greet the Thurday night before PIR!! I cant wait to meet everyone that comes!!!

I hope you all get letters soon if you havent gotten one yet. It was funny because before my son left he said jsut write to me once a week mom, that will be enough!  Did I listen, heck no!!! I mail him something everyday, a comic *the far side), joke, letter, postcard...something. When I got a letter from him he said thanks for writing so much and to keep it up! He wanted as much as possible. Made my heart smile!!!

Just booked a room at the Navy Lodge! :)

Sooo excited. We're 1/3 done ladies!

reenis- phone calls aren't usually permitted until mid to end of week 3 from what I understand, unless they call for security reasons.
