Thanks for the info, Meruhnavywife.

@Lois: You'll probably want to drive yourself to the airport because a taxi would be as much as renting a car for the entire weekend, and you'll get to leave when you need to, no waiting for shuttles.

@Parrothdgal: if they ship out the next day, they will have liberty the entire day of graduation, after graduation. You have to get them back to base before their curfew, but you can go anywhere within a 50 mile radius of the base. They must wear Navy uniform (so no going into bars, drinking, holding hands, holding children while out), but they can go out to eat with you, and even go back to your hotel if you want as long as you get them back. Once they are in A School and hit (I think) Phase II, they have more liberty, and you can probably go visit for the weekend.

So if I get to see him off at the airport, do I drive there myself or use public transportation?  I'm so lost right now.  This is so crazy. I wish I had my sister coming with me, but she can't. I'll be coming alone to this whole celebration.

TiffsMom:  Most likely, the 10 lost are in the division.  Some may have been discharged, some just asmoed (setback) until they pass tests, get well, etc.  Some of those (if not all) will be put into new divisions once they are back on track to train again---divisions in PIR groups that are at the same point in training that the SR was when separated from his/her first division.  My son was asmoed when there, so I have some personal experience with this!  :-)

KylesMom:  You should be able to spend some time with him at the airport on Sat.  They are usually bussed out there around 2 am to wait for flights so you may be getting little sleep on PIR night...but who cares?  :-)  Be sure to take ID so you can get a gate pass to wait with him there until his plane leaves.  If he leaves from Ohare, you can meet up with him at the USO (if you arrive there after he does).  If he leaves from Midway, then he will need to meet you in front of security to help you get your gate pass---their USO is past security.

If they are on a charter flight, you will not be able to spend time with them...so pray for no charters!

Carls,

I am preparing myself for my SR to need to leave the day after graduation. If this is the case we will go to six flags or something. Wonder if Oprah films on Saturday? LOL! I’m coming from FL and the flight will not leave till Sunday night. So either way it’s a weekend in Chicago! I’m guessing if there is a flight to TX everyone’s SR will be on it regardless of the job! My SR is MAA and that is also in San Antonio. Bet she will have to go Sat. too. I’m sure they don’t want these young future sailors with too much time on their hands in Chicago! *sigh.  I really want an entire day with her!

Wow!!! SailorMom, so happy for you!!! I am still waiting, quite anxiously, for my first real letter!!! Can't wait to hear how he is doing! I've been reading here the past few days moms getting some letters, so I'm expecting one real soon!!! But, wow, lost 10 already? Is that his ship? Division?
