Ship 11 DIV 185    I sure hope I get a letter from my son this week he has been there two weeks today, I sure do miss him!   So where is everyone going to stay for graduation.  I heard the candlewood suites 1 bedroom suites are nice because there is a privated bedroom/kitchen living room so you have room for extra people to sleep on the sofa bed, and to visit.   They are $93.00 a night with AAA discount.   My mom is coming so that will work well for us.   I am just curious about other places.   It seems like everyone else doesnt have that so I would need to rent two rooms.    thanks

It's actually almost better to NOT hear from someone going through boot camp so early. Usually if they need to call it is for info for their paperwork, it can delay their processing (hence possibly delaying the paycheck which should be 1 month out from arrival anyway), or you may receive a call if they are sick. My brother called my sis-in-law several times during basic, but it was always because he was sick.

Also, for those with loved ones in performance divisions who are actually drilling, marching, or playing, sometimes their calls are delayed because call time occurs at the same time as rehearsals.

The time will fly by, no doubt, but it is still very early. They've only just finished their first real week of boot camp (PT & classes). Don't fret if you don't get a call or letter until later :)

Your SR's should be allowed to call home around their 3rd week of BC, unless they do need additional information for their security clearances. Some of you may hear from them sooner, if that is the case.

Still no phone call and only the form letter...The waiting is the hardest part!!!!

GABBYSMOM:  Some call the recruiter for an address.  Just know that letters are held from the SRs for the first 2 weeks of bc.  Also, the address you will get in the form letter is the proper one.  So be sure to check that one with the recruiter's address.  Sometimes the recruiter's address is a temporary one.  Your SR will receive letters sent to it, but if it is incorrect, may take a bit longer to track him down.

Dee:  The MeetNGreet is from 6-8 pm at the Ramada Waukegan for all Navy families with PIR the next day (not just Navy for Mom families).

Most people arrive in GLakes by Thurs afternoon....and we veteran ladies suggest that you plan to stay through the entire weekend just in case your sailor doesn't leave until Sunday.  If your sailor is staying in GLakes for training, you should have the whole weekend with him/her (not overnights usually) except for some watch duty.  Only your SR will be able to tell you when he/she will be flying out if not staying in GLakes and he/she won't know that until about 3 weeks before PIR.  If you book with Southwest Airlines, they charge no change fee and you can check two pieces of luggage for free.  They fly into Midway(Chicago) and also into Milwaukee (usually cheaper).  Milwaukee is just a few minutes further of a drive from GL and it is a drive without the Chicago traffic!
