Well that's interesting, thank you for sharing!  Right now I am grateful to have his address and my fingers are itching to look up flights but patience is a virtue I imagine :)    The whole Kid in a Box thing is so odd - it reminds me of that scene in the Wizard of Oz "I'm melting . . . ." Like, where the heck is my kid? Did he melt?ha.

I'm still going to try and get a pass for our car.  I've read that some people have driven their SR to their ship so they don't have to walk to and from the gate...if not I'll walk back with her...lol

The Army let them take an over night bag with them to boot camp and it wasn't sent home in a box.  He called once when he got there and then again when boot camp started in the same week.  For PIR he had to check in to Airborne school right after the graduation....that took forever.  But was released at 10pm that night and he was with us until Sunday when we had to leave.  He could have his cell phone, laptop, civilian clothes ect.  He didn't have to be in uniform at all that weekend.  Jump school wasn't his A school.  Allie is going to be a corpsman and that school has moved to Texas...so based on everything I've been reading she will fly out Sat.  Also, there was no limit to how many people could attend PIR.  And we got a three day pass for our car so we could come and go from the base as needed.

In what way is it different than Army, just kinda curious? :) Hang in there.  I wrote my first letter to my son today and it was cheering.

Hi Everyone,

My Daughter Allie (in the pic) is in Ship 07 Div 187.  This is my second time around my oldest son did five years in the Army and got out last July.  Now here we go again.  She is my youngest and only girl.  I am missing her terribly.  The house is very quite...sigh.  Received her box last week...didn't like that but received the form letter with a little note on Monday :).  I'm finding that this experience is so different than what I experienced in the Army.

Thank you for this group and all the info it is very helpful.

My son's recruiting officer was very helpful providing the mailing address and ship/division yesterday. He's in 929, Ship 2 so looks like June 3 will be the date (but not making air reservations til I see an official posting).  The FB photos are really helpful - love the visuals!

Tonight I went to see a musical based on the movie "9 to 5" it was really funny...but then I had to come home to a quite house. My 2 younger kids are at their dad's house and with my RC not home the house is so much quiter. He would usually be home or getting home about the same time as I would be and that would have been our chance to sit and chat about the day. Really missing him right now...(heavy sigh).......

Ship 07 Div 178......got my form letter yesterday and smiled. Today got "the box" and was not quite as happy. Funny how these two things had such an effect on my emotions. The letter made me feel closer to my son, I was thrilled to see his handwriting, and so happy with the few sentences he wrote! Then today to get the box, I felt a distance......sort of like sending his belongings home, is more of a reality of him walking away from his civilian life..... Such a roller coaster of emotions....I'm sure it will only continue!!

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get the form letter? I see where several people know what ship and division the RC is in. Can anyone give me some insight on this?
