Wow!! That is great that you guys (Kayla & Parratdgal) foudn eachother here and that your daughters are together!!
Kayla- if you go under your profile and add Parrathdgal as a friend then you can message back and forth!
I'm sure you have all heard it before but the Navy's unoffical motto is "Hurry up and wait!" My son learned that at MEPS, the couple times he was there. I too have not received my letter, even though it breaks my heart that I havent heard anything and I run to the mailbox after work everyday only to find nothing..... I always remind myself that my son is safe and well fed!
It is great to hear when you all receive your letters...let the rest of us know so we can share in your joy! I always smile when I read that one of you got one because I know a mom out there is beaming from ear to ear!! Plus it gives other hope if we are in the same division that our letters will be coming soon!!
Parrathdgal,
I am not sure how to message. I did find where to request you as a friend maybe once we are friends we can then message???? That would be great to be able to let her know that we are connected on here and they are together. Maybe that would help them both knowing that their moms are talking with each other. Like the thoughts of a perfect marriage. LOL
Gail
I have not gotten my letter either so I know how you feel.... I keep going to the post office every day just be disappointed to see it is not there. Just keep in mind at least after reading these posting you know it is well on its way to you.
Kayla...
Your daughter and mine will be in this all the way together. My daughter is going to be an MAA as well! I can't imagint it truly but I know it will be a great for her!! I tell her that being tougher than your husband will be the key to a perfect marriage!! LOLI know how you feel. I thought I was ready to get her out of thw house. Turns out I was but only to have her move next door! We should exchange names of out daughters and send them to them in a letter and let tham know we have been in contact! It's so great having other mom's to talk to! I have to figure out how to send a message on this thing!
Gail...
I'm sure you will get your letter very soon. Know everything is good if you hear nothing! :o)
Hi, Lee Ann! Thanks for joining us veterans to help this group! Your advice below is great. I had not heard any reviews on the Candlewood Suites from others who have stayed there, so it was good to hear that it worked for you. I believe that is very close to the Residence Inn, where we stayed.
You comment about the GPS was funny because...my older son brought his with him and it led us to a closed down deserted restaurant for dinner! Sent my sailor into a tailspin that he may be late back to base (a huge NO NO, as you know, after PIR). He was ready to give up having dinner rather than face being late. As it was, we found a quick spot to eat (and he visited with sailors there from GL A School base)...and he was back in plenty of time!
mmiles: YES! Absolutely attend the MeetNGreet. Like Lee Ann, I also missed ours and regret it. But we flew in from Miami and got there close to dinnertime...and exhausted! What many PIR groups do is attend the MeetNGreet, which is held for ALL Navy famiiles PIRing the next day, not just N4Mom families...and then they go somewhere as a N4Mom group afterwards to visit longer. You will be amazed at how close you ladies will become to one another by being on here. This is a great support group.
And, also, Lee Ann's advice about the travel arrangements is right on! My son was one who was asmoed (setback) in his 3rd week of training...for a week. Of course, we already had our flights...and not with Southwest :-( ... he gave me his new PIR date (2 weeks later) when he was taken from his division...Thank goodness I didn't change my flights right then because he called just a week later and was back in a new division resuming training, so his PIR date changed AGAIN! Thankfully, the same flights were cheaper to book in that new time period so the $150 change fee per ticket turned out to seem like $89. But still....
For those traveling with larger groups and needing more space, Residence Inn has 2 bdrm 2 bth suites with full kitchens, living room with pullout. Pet friendly too. But their 2 bdrm suites book quickly so reserve as soon as you have your date confirmed (very liberal cancellation policy if you need to cancel). They also have a free hot buffet breakfast in the lobby and PIR shuttle.
