I'm so glad I found this.  My bf left on 4/5. He is 29 so older than a lot of the guys but he joined because he could not find a civil eng job.  Does anyone know when they will be able to send letters or any form of communication? I new to this so I have lots of questions.

My son also is to attend Logistics school, in Meridian, Mississippi.  I'm still having problems with US Cellular and getting my son's cell service suspended!  My son has been out on his own, for over 3 years, and thus has his own cell phone plan.  US Cellular is telling me that I need Power of Attorney in order to suspend his service!  I have faxed his Navy "contract" (blacking-out social security #) to US Cellular...his recruiter said that would be enough...and reccomended doing just that...but when I phone my son's cell I still receive his voice mail...which I should not be able to do if his service was suspended.  I just hate the idea that he still has to pay a cell phone bill when he is not able to have or use his phone for 8 weeks!   HELP!

Well, I am hoping for a 5/27, but after reading how most of you had your sons or daughters leave the same day as my wife (4/5) I believe this might be the right place.

Welcome, Kayla.  You may be in this group, or the next one.  Stay here until you know for sure (form letter received with info on it) and ask questions!  I am a veteran mom, along with Jessica, Lala, Betsy, and janlee...so we are here to help!

Thanks to all that are posting here, I am new to this. My daughter left for BC 4/5/11. I am hoping I have found the right group.  I have been watching all the posts and that has prepared me for what I have gone home to find.... I got home Friday after reading posts about the "kid in the Box" and found my daughters. It was very hard but at least I was slightly ready to find it after seeing that some other mothers with same BC dates had gotten theirs.

Verizon will suspend cell phone service with no reconnect fee for "military orders". You have to take the letter that most of us are still waiting on :)~

I also realized that my son could be one of the rcts being trained for mail :) LOL He went in for logistics.

Hello! Through ATT was easy to suspend his phone simple click of a button on my online acct!  My son has a smartphone so I did change the phone on his account so that I could take all the features off his line to save some money, so now I am only paying the $9.99 to have him on my family account. That's not too bad. I can readd his phone and his internet plan once he is in A school when I send him his phone.

I dont know yet which weekend my sons PIR will fall on so I joined this group as well as the 5/27 group.....like most of you still waiting for this "official letter" I keep hearing about! LOL

Have a great day!!

With ATT you have 14 days to submit their enlistment papers.  My son's came home in his "kid in a box" and so I plan to make copy and fax today.  I guess each provider is different.  Also, I am wondering how much it will really save me for 8 weeks, i.e. worth the hassle of suspending and unsuspending? Although I imagine my son will want a new and improved phone as soon as he can (A School???)

My son arrived at RTC on April 7...so I'm guessing (and hoping) that I am in the right place!  I'm very anxious to receive my son's address as I began writing him a letter on April 7 and am adding new "news" and encouragement every day...and plan to mail the letter as soon as I receive his address!  Has anyone got info on how to get their cell phone service "suspended" until graduation?  I've been gettting the run-around from my son's cell phone company! (VERY FRUSTRATING)!!!  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

GailMindy:  Yes, the recruit who handles the mail must be trained before the mail delivery starts.  So it is usually held from them for the first 2 weeks of bootcamp....also, for those using an address from the recruiter, please check it with the one in the form letter when it arrives...sometimes they are a bit different.  The form letter should be the updated correct one.  Other letters should get there, but it will take a bit longer if the address is not correct.
