Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

elizatill - My son had told us in one of his letters that one of the guys fell and broke their arm in the shower - worst sound he ever heard. If that was your son, I hope he is doing better. Ouch. :( The ups and downs of the last four weeks has been so crazy - but once your son is healed he'll be able to get back on track. Good luck to him!

I know this is silly but I joined this group so I could share in the excitment as your PIR date gets closer. This was my sons PIR date but 1 week 2 days into training he feel and broke his wrist..had surgery and is in the RCU. No PIR date in the near future As this date gets closer, I knew it would be hard so I thought reading some post would help..My son was in ship 07, div 201...Good luck to you all and I'll be checking in from time to time to enjoy your excitment...Our time will come!

Susan don't feel bad I missed my son's call at 3:23 in the afternoon when my principal had called me for a meeting and I always have my phone but that specific time I left it on my desk. When I got back and saw that I had missed his call I was so angry with myself for leaving it and cried. He called his dad who got to talk to him so I immediately called him to see what he had said. And he said that he missed us but that he was doing fine and not to worry for him. He did leave a message on my phone whichI hear from time to time. Just hang there a few more weeks to go! Counting down the days.

Happy Mother's Day to all of my N4M's friends! Even if we don't hear from our recruits today I'm sure they will be thinking of us! David was foresighted enough in last Sunday's letter to wish me a Happy Mother's day in advance. What a kid!
Boone's Mom, I know exactly what you mean. I saw a sticker in the car at the parking lot of the burger place last night that said "Proud Parent of a son in the Army". While I was wating for my take out order I looked around trying to figure out who it belonged to. I have a co-worker whose son is leaving soon for a year's tour in Africa. Another who's son is heading into Airborne training tomorrow. Two months ago that information would have been just something I knew about them. Now it's something I feel with them.
I wish all of you peace and sunshine today, Kathy

Happy Mother's Day to all! Only 25 day to the PIR!

Now that my son has joined the Navy, I'm becoming much more aware of others who have children/spouses in the armed forces, too, and I've joined the Blue Star Mothers organization. We pack care packages, send notes and cards, provide care and support to each other, and in general, provide a place where all branches of the military can find a group of moms/spouses who actively remember them during training, deployments, and stateside duties. There are chapters everywhere, so take a look and see if this might be something of interest to you as well...
