Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

My son Kevin is Ship 7 Div 202. Arrived at BC on 4/7. I received the first full letter on 4/22. I had hoped to receive a letter yesterday if the patten held... no letter, but instead he called!!! I'll take that over a letter any day!!! He thought he only had 10 minutes to talk... hung up and then called back as he had more time. We talked for a total of 30 minutes. Kev has been very upbeat throughout... doesn't like all that they have to do, but seems to be taking it in stride. I am very very pleased and relieved at his positive attitude. I had concerns he would hate it & be down, but so far, he hasn't been. He said they received their uniforms the day before & they look sharp! No ironing yet, but I know that is coming. He praised their RDCs... felt they are very good and credits them for his division being very good. He mentioned the flag earned the other day. No mention of swimming. He had a cavity filled the other day & said they turned the TV on a little at the dentists office... their timing was just right as he got caught up on his NBA Nuggets playoff status. He is grad n go so we'll only have friday together. I cannot wait for June 4th !!!!! Ann

I received my 3rd letter in the mail weds :) Laurin is doing well, she passed her swim test and physical tests also! She seems happy and healthy says things are going great. They go to Freedom Hall on Saturdays to what they call Bases and do different stations 12 min each of physical exercise and are allowed to interact with eachother w/out getting into trouble. They say its "Recruit Recess" either way it seems like they are getting a little free time and enjoying the exercise :)
I cant wait till June 4th! Does anyone know how far the Amtrack station is from the Base? And where a good but reasonable hotel is near by?

Got my second letter today and 2 phone calls Ship 7 Div 202. Josh is doing well passed swim test, physical assesment and Div won a flag today. He is Section Lead and says the guys he is in charge of are doing great! Made reservations for the hotel and planej and now counting down the days as I was reminded by my son today 38 more days!!!

Got my second letter! Ship 7 Div 202 - doing well but very tired. My son has been appointed to ship staff by his RDC's for his work ethic and responsibility! They have obviously brought out a new and mature side! So nice to hear. He misses home and California terribly - hates Great Lakes weather. But, as he says, he hasn't had the opportunity to leave boot camp and really see the area. The division seems to be doing well :) Can't wait for a phone call soon!

I just seen the 35 days also!! My cell phone will remain on and charged!! I just worry if he remembers the actual number since it's always programmed as Mom in his cell phone. And boy, this vision just popped into my head of my son having withdrawal symptoms from his phone that does EVERYTHING. Makes me laugh!! You gotta find a little humor in this craziness!

My son has been gone 21 days and today was the regularly scheduled three week call. The other was very random and unusual. I'm sure you'll get one soon.

My son being hard headed is one thing I worry about so if they are in fact earning phone calls, I may have a LONG wait!! Ha, ha!! On the other hand, he gets homesick really easy and you may be right susan2david about it being too much for him right now. He played football all through middle school and high school and if you've ever had a child go through a football program, it is very grueling and intense. He had JROTC Freshman year and knows all about that ironing also! Just not at 2 in the morning. I'm sure we'll hear from them soon.

My son has been gone 17 days (not that I'm counting or anything!) and no phone calls or letters. I'm with you MV about no news is good news. I'd imagine that sleep is probably more important to him than writing! I do wonder how some of the people have been allowed multiple phone calls already?

I love the early morn ironing! Wonder if my son is doing that in his DIV, too? I well remember his throwing shirts in the dryer with a bit of water to avoid the ironing! Haha...life just may be catching up with him! :-) Thanks for the sharing, and I am still hopeful my sweet DiL will hear something from him soon!!!

I can echo what therightthing said, I heard from my son about a half hour ago. He seemed much more upbeat than the last phone call. He didn't say anything about his swim qualifications but I'm sure he did well because he's a good swimmer. They do seem to be doing a lot of ironing in the middle of the night. There has been some drama but things are moving right along. I'm sure that many people, all about the same age, together morning noon and night, being stressed to the max produces drama!
