Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

We're in the same boat with our son...his box and form letter arrived; and a packet of info about dependents for his wife...but as of today, no letters or phone calls...he left for BC on the 12th...

susan2david,
I haven't received phone calls or a single letter yet and this is fiancee's third week. He's ship 7 div 205. Did your son take envelopes and stamps? Mine didn't and I wonder if that may be part of the problem. I'm hoping maybe to get something tomorrow since they write on Sundays.

Susan2David - My son left April 13. We did get the box and the form letter the first week, but nothing since then. From what I can gather, it is normal not to get any letters or phone calls until at least the third week. Today marks the second week our son has been gone and I have written him nearly every day since we got the form letter. It's my therapy! If your still concerned, I would definately call or stop by and see his Recruiter.

Susan2David....read all the past posts. My son is in your son's division and I have had a couple of letters and a phone call. I have written all I know because I get so much information from other Mom's and girlfriends posts. My son stressed not to feel that the PIR date is a definite. Things out of their control happen such as illness that delay it. He does feel that their is very good medical care there and other systems in place to help them if they need it. Take care and one thing I also found is that any kind of discussion online can sometimes be addictive and not always healthy. (I love this forum!) I sometimes have to force myself to take abreak and do other distracting things. I work in front of a computer and I have a laptop at home that is very portable so at times I feel I am checking too much and hours seem like days.

Susan-Hang in there. It is so tough not knowing - that is harder than anything, I think. I thought I would go crazy and I was about ready to attack our mailman (as if he could do anything!). My son is Div 202, but he seems to be doing fine. I have received the form letter and his two sentences! The days drag on while you wait, but it will come. Now that you have an address, start writing your son, that definitely helps!

Susan: My son is also Ship 07, Div 201. The last letter said all is going well....very hard, no sleep, good food. He said it's worth it, though. He's been healthy, so far, but some guys have been sick. If we hear anything else, we'll let you know. Also.....no news is good news....as far as the Navy goes. : )

Good for you Clandy26!! It really is a mind thing and turning these men into sailors is a process, but it's encouraging to the loved one's just to get that unexpected call. I'm sure it also put him on Cloud 9.

Elizabeth: I am thinking about you and your son and hoping that he is going to be o.k.

I received my first real call from my husband today! I was both happy and sad! His voice made me miss him but I felt so close :) weird right? It was an eight minute call, so we didnt' get to talk about to much. He said he got lucky because I guess yesterday he helped out one of his petty officers so he got rewarded! Thats my man!!! lol He sounded really good! Didn't sound to tired and was happy to inform me that he sent out five letters today! He said I'd really like them. I heard somebody else say that their husband did this but he also informed me that he was writing at night. Bad boy hehe! It was really hard to not cry and I have to admit I did a little but I was really happy to hear his voice!

My son went through MEPS in San Jose the mornign of 4/7. Unfortunately, this was not a usual phone call. I don't think you should expect one until the end of the third week. It was a relief to hear his voice and to hear that his wisdom teeth went OK. That was my biggest concern. They are hurting but he is OK. I was mostly concerned about his state of mind. He sounded very tired but OK. Certainly not elated. When I asked him what he wanted to do after PIR before he was grad and go I suggested a hot bath or sleep at our hotel and he said he didn't care about sleep anymore. It was a thing of the past.
