Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

Does that delay his graduation..having his wisdom teeth out?

I wish mine sounded happier and a little more settled in but unfortunately just the opposite. He wrote it on a Thursday and he was SIQ (Sick in Quarters.) He had his shots the day before and he said the one in his rear was unbelievably painful and he had 3 on one side and two on the other. He said he woke up that morning vomiting quite a bit after having stood watch the night before. He told me not to worry because he said the 24 hours of bunk time was welcomed!!! He said his muscles were really sore. He also said they were going to take his wisdom teeth. YIKES. I am really right there with him in the pain!!! He said he is only sleep a few hours every night. He sounded miserable but he never said I hate this or a want out or I wish hadn't done this. His letter just said, MOM...not Dear Mom, he didn't sign it and the envelope just said our street address and no family name. I could be reading a lot into this but blah...... He did put a schedule for their days. 4:00 wake up 30 sec to wake up and put shoes on 4:05 tear apart rack 4:07 remake bed in 10 min
4:20 shave brush teeth in 10 mins 2 sections at a time 4:50Learn something about folding or cleaning 5:30 breakfast 12 min to eat no talking 6:00 Pump and Dump (that's using the bathroom) 6:10 Readers (say outloud all the stuff we memorized 6:30-12:30 Medical exams, dental, shots, vision, hearing 12:30 lunch 12:43 pump and dump 1:00 more note taking on folding uniforms/rank recognition 3:00 some type of lecture (yesterdays was how they get paid and choosing a bank 5:00 dinner 5:20 pump and dump 5:30 hygiene; 45 mins for both sides to shower and clean, fix rack and turn in laundry 6:15 study for random amt of time 7:00 learn more about uniforms and stuff 8:00 pass out laundry and fold 8:30 2 nights ago they got in trouble and did physical training for 1 hour 9:30 lights out 2:00-3:00 was his watch time WHEW!!! He wrote this letter on a Thursday.

Candy26, he shipped to GL on 4/6. I hope everybody's recruits sound happier and a little more settled in this weeks letters. I reminded mine yesterday that he's half way thru the first half (easy for me to say!).

I'm taking JessicaB's advice....we gout our letter yesterday and it was very positive. We live only 50 minutes from Great Lakes, so we might get ours a little quicker than cross country. My son says the food is good...eating lots of fruits and veggies ( a mother's dream!) They all keep busy....trying to do everything he's told.......writes letters on bed (or at table only on Sundays)......85 people in his division........and has made a lot of friends! I'm thinking this really is the right thing!

Of course I will share any info I get. I agree that it doesn't matter how you stay connected and I am sure there is good reason why some are getting more letters out than others.

Hi Everyone I also received my son's form letter and graduation date. Love the countdown. I mailed my first letter to him right after I received the address. Pretty fat envelope. I will send another soon. great Idea about the postage. Maybe I will send a self addressed envelope as well. Now I am waiting for the phone call. I already made hotel reservations @ the Ramada in Waukegan, IL. I think we are going to drive from western PA. I may want to take more than a carry on suitcase. He is Ship 7 Div 205.

So, I thought about and felt closer to my son on Sunday knowing that it was the day he could write letters. He is such a caring, thoughtful, considerate son that he wrote his first letter addressed to me. I waited all morning and afternoon today, and weeded the rose garden out by the mail box in anticipation of the delivery of his next letter. And, because he is a caring, thoughtful, considerate son he wrote this second letter to his father...who is away on a business trip!
No, I did not open it to read the letter(that's where the kid gets the thoughtful and considerate part), and, the man had better call me tonight and ask me to read it to him! In the word of an infamous sailor....Arrrrrgh!
