Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

kathyjeanba - If he ordered Pkg A, it comes with it as a free bonus. But I only got mine yesterday, and Pam got her's a few days before, so it could still come. I did like the book - there's a great picture of my son standing at attention. The guy behind him is smiling really big while the RDC is talking to him - but the funny part is, Brandon had just been royally chewed out because he forgot to put a period at the end of his sentence in the log book (he was the Port Watch Section Leader). He knew that picture would be in the book, but when I told him the RDC was talking to the guy behind him and not chewing my son out, he was bummed. He thought that would of been a better photo!!! okay - so my son's a little strange!

I'm begining to think that our sailor didn't order the Keel book. I asked him but he couldn't remember. "That seems so long ago now..." :) Dosen't sound like we're missing much.

We got the Keel book too! Yes...not as many current pictures as I thought there would be. But, it's a nice memory.

We got the Keel book today. I agree with Pam, it's a little disappointing, but that's ok. What surprised me was that only his division (201 and brother division (202) were in the book. I thought it would be of all 8 of them.

Thanks everyone! He seems to be doing better - learning not to let people get to him. He has looked into transferring, but he has to do his job for two years before he has the opportunity to request something else. We keep telling him that two years will go by quickly and he will have the opportunity to travel, meet new people, and he may like his job once he is actually out of school and doing it!

I hope we get the book soon, our son will be home for leave a week from today!!!! He asked about the Keel when he called.
Comment by Pam on August 27, 2010 at 11:45am
We got our Keel a couple days ago. Kind of dissappointed that the first half isn't even of our group/division. Stood out that some of the pictures had snow on the ground and the Recruits were wearing scarves.

Rebecca - Jamie is homesick also and he's having a hard time dealing with other guys not being as serious about Corpsman school as he seems to be. I just keep telling him that no matter where you go or what you do, there is always drama. Whether it's in school, the military or a job. You have to learn to deal with it the best way that you can. Good luck and hang in there!
Comment by TheRightThing on August 27, 2010 at 9:12am
Did anybody get the "keel" yet?

Rebecca: Hang in there........your sailor is tougher than he thinks he is....and so are YOU! Can he speak with a "career counselor" at Great Lakes ????????
Comment by Rebecca4 on August 20, 2010 at 7:51pm
Thanks, Sobe! He is doing okay, but isn't happy with his job. He didn't get what he thought he would be doing. He has some maturing to do - but it is difficult for a 20 year old to accept doing a job he isn't happy at. He is also upset about some drama there -- he isn't used to that kind of stuff. He is still in Great Lakes and is in some kind of electrical engineering program for the engine room. Not what he wanted to be doing at all! He is also homesick.
