Hi !! I'm here, Ship 13/Div 239!! My son arrived on May 17th. I am a total newbie to the Navy, but am learning a lot quickly. This is a terrific site.
oh wow! We are as well...how old is you son? My Amanda is 20...she arrived on 5/17 as well. I miss her so much. She lived in Oregon for 6 mos. but decide art school wasn't what she wanted to do, so she went back to "Plan A" which was the Navy. How about your son? Did he sound ok in his little 4-line note on the grad paperwork?
My son, Jesse is 21. He talked about joining the Navy throughout high school. He had a girlfriend who didn't want him to join, he was working at McDonalds and did manage to get his drivers license and bought our classic car (73 montego, his "baby"), but wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life. Things didn't work out with his girlfriend, so, like you said, "back to plan A"! I am so proud of him. But I do have to say Thank God for this site, as well as some "old timers" at my work who were in the military and also my brother-in-law who was in the Navy in the 80's. I have learned so much in a short time!

He sounded ok in his short note, he said: "I am in good hands. Stay Safe! See all of you in about a month. I will call ASAP. Peace and Love!!" - funny how a couple of sentences made me so happy!!

How bout your daughter, she sound ok?
-mary
She was fine too...told me she had no regrets and was happy she's there. Oh, and that she wished she had a hair brush! I'm sure she got one by now...that was only the 4th day. I'm sure she has one now. She had beautiful blonde hair...but it will grow back. Do you have any other children? We have a 16 year old son who will be a junior next year...plays baseball. He has no clue what he wants to do...but that's perfectly normal. It's hard these days to figure it out...I think the Navy is a smart choice. I guess this is where we get used to not hearing from them, or about them every day. At least when she was in Oregon, I could text her and hear about her day...this is so hard! I think this site is great too...makes me feel better to talk with other Moms who are feeling the same thing I am. Would love to meet you when we get to graduation! :)
I think it will be great to meet you at graduation! We have two other kids, daughters. The oldest is out on her own and has 3 children, (I love being a grandma!). My youngest will be 19 tomorrow (Sat), and she is at her senior prom right now! This is the first time Jesse has been away from home, and not hearing from him is making me crazy. I keep reminding myself to be patient and I am so proud of him and that is helping - some...
HI! My daughter Megan left on May 17th as well! I miss her so very much... my heart hurts!
I also have a son who is a Diver in the Navy... He is stationed in Guam, and loving being in the Navy.
Do you know how to get extra tickets to the PIR?
Cheers!
Molly
Is she in Ship 13 Div 239 too? I cried myself to sleep Sat night! I'm better now, from what I read below--sounds like we might have another week or more until we get a phone call...? ugh...well, I'll keep writing because it's probably more important that she hears from us with love and support to keep her going that me, the big-baby mom hearing from her little girl! Regarding extra tickets, I'm not sure I think you get the 4 and then when you get there, you might be able to snag some extras if there are any...otherwise, they might be waiting outside. Sounds like an expensive gamble in case someone doesn't get in. We are thinking about flying into Midway on Southwest...I like Southwest and at least we wouldn't have to pay for baggage like on the other airlines! The drive is further though...but we don't mind that.
Hi! My son is in the same Div. He arrived May 18th and we miss him sooo much. Our house is much too quiet. I write him daily and want to hear from him. I know he can't reply but it is so difficult waiting. I can't believe it has only been 2 weeks tomorrow.
I have been looking for air fare but it seems so expensive. We were going to take our whole family, but it was going to cost $2000 just for air fare. Any suggestions for hotels? The Ramada Inn sounds okay...but if there is something better let me know.
My son told me he could call after 3 1/2 weeks. I sure hope so!
I totally understnd! my house is so quite too! I am looking into places to stay as well... they seem pricey to me. I am going to drive there with my son. Should be an adventure for sure. The kids only get a few tickets to graduation, I sure wish they got more! How are you doing today? its the start of week three. I am so excited for the phone call from Meg! I will most likey start crying. What job will your son do?
Well I am off to bed. Big Hug!
Cheers!
Molly
It would be so great if we all can stay at the same hotel...I feel like we will get to know each other pretty well over the next 5 or 6 weeks huh? Our house is about the same, only because Amanda was so quiet! But, it does feel empty...we have a 16 year old son at home, so at least it's not a complete "empty nest" huh? I think a lot of people stay at that Ramada in Waukegan...they have that Meet & Greet for the PIR 6/18 group...maybe something like that will happen for ours (not that I'm planning it or anything ha ha!). Anyway, hang in there "Moms" we will get through this. And please, let's share any and all info we get whenever we finally get to talk to our kids. Take care and God Bless.
I am out of sorts today. One of my son's best friends came over today and it made me feel happy but a little depressed. It shouldn't, but I miss the fun times. My son will be a jet mechanic hence the name jetmonkeymom. What will your daughter be doing? Do you know where her A school will be? Hope you get a call soon. I am hoping for a piece of mail today. Wishful thinking.
Big hug to you too.

Barbara
my daughter will be an Aviation Structural Mechanic...she's going to Pensacola for A school. I don't think she knows anything more than that...could be a heli could be a plane or jet I suppose. She just wants to be on a carrier at some point and I think she's got a good chance. They say (well, I know you take some of that with a grain of salt) but anyway, that she should be 50/50 on land and sea. I've written quite a few letters...mailing another one today. She will probably get them all at once...I think it can take up to 10 days to get them actually delivered to the sailor. So, I'll keep writing...by the way, what is your son's 1st name? (if you don't mind). Just thought I would let Amanda know...even though they are not allowed to talk to each other! ha ha. take care and God Bless you Barbara.
