Hi! I don't see a discussion group for Ship 07 DIV 221 yet, so here we go!!!  I got my first letter from my son this last Wednesday, June 6th. Did any of you also get letters yet. If so, how were your sailors doing? Mine said he's doing fine, the food is bad, he really likes his bunk mate and the two guys next to him. He also mentioned about the RDC's being strict and serious but fair. He didn't date his letter, but I think he wrote it last Sunday. I can't WAIT to hear more from him. I hope you're all doing well and can't WAIT to visit with all of you on here!!!

My husband is DIV 221.  I did get a letter on Wednesday, and I felt like I won the lottery!  I believe that it was written on sunday as well.  He didn't sound too excited about being there, and is having a hard time being away from us (we have 2 small children as well).  I write him every single day, and 2 times a day sometimes.  I try to keep the letters upbeat but I'm not having an easy time.  I booked my ticket for the graduation yesterday, and booked with Southwest so that I can change the dates if need be.  I booked our rental car as well.  I'm hoping we get a phone call soon! I just want to hear his voice.  I hope to get a letter again this Wednesday! :-)

mrzscott, I felt like I had won the lottery too!!! As soon as he got the mail my husband actually brought the letter straight down to my office. I actually read it out loud to everyone!!! navyknit22, I agree that "no news is good news" too, but I know that it's soooo hard! I cried approximately half of the way through church this morning, but I've been OK since. At least no one mentioned it to me, and I know my husband understands, thank God!!!  I've been noticing that I need to get off this website for a while before going to bed. I can't seem to shut my brain down at night, thinking about my son. I just keep reminding myself that God is with him, and will watch over him better than I could ever dream of!!! We will be driving to PIR, but we need to get a room booked! Thanks for the reminder mrzscott!!! Do you have family close that are helping with your children while your husband is away? I sure hope so. I will keep you both in my prayers too!!!

I'm actually very blessed to have a lot of support. Our 10 month old daughter just took her first step! Now I'll have something to write him tonight. :-). I've been trying to stay busy, but I miss him! He was such a huge help while he was here. He didn't mention in his letter how the division is doing as a whole. Do you think we may get a call next Sunday?

I sure hope so!!! I'm kind of afraid I won't be able to keep from crying when I talk to him. Oh well, the poor kid is sure used to it by now! 39 days left till their PIR. I was always afraid of my sons going into the military. I didn't ever think that I'd be able to handle it. I guess I am handling it. I just keep trying to focus on the positive aspects of it. I need to finish getting ready for work, so I have to go.  I hope you have a good day!!!

I will share whatever div 221 info I receive.  My son said that it should be downhill from here (June 3rd) but if it wasn't he wouldn't mind.  He said Basic wasn't bad as long as you listen.  He likes his bunkmate, too and the food.  I set the bar pretty low in that department....He is the LPO(Laundry Petty Officer)  What jobs did your guys get?  Is everyone going to PIR?  I made reservations for the Residence Inn 'cause I know he wont want to go out to eat but just vegg out.  Hope that sushi restaurant has take out.

Thanks DrewsMOM!!! Wow, did you son ever do laundry before he went to boot camp!  Mine did, not great, but he did it!!! I'm hoping I'll get a letter tomorrow that will tell me more, and answer some of my questions to him! My husband and I will be going to PIR. He book at the Red Carpet Inn today. I'm anxious to check out their website. He said it was really CHEAP! Wouldn't it be neat if our boys were bunkmates?!? I LOVE knowing that the sons of other moms on here are there with my son. It's weird, but it helps in some mysterious, quirky way!! I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you, thanks for replying!!!

Did he do ever do laundry B4 BC - NO!  What's up with this Navy.  I'm calling him Drew 2.0 the improved version.  Can't wait for the phone call & I can asked about all the guys he has met from all over the US.  BTW I got a better rate at the Residence Inn with my AAA discount.

Ahhh..I think I'll be telling my hubby about that Residence Inn!  Do you know if they have a shuttle to PIR?  I still need to find out if Garrett is going to A school in Great Lakes or San Diego. I'm confused and don't know if we'll get to spend the night of PIR with him or if he will have to leave. I am soooo hoping to get to be with him that night at least also. Hey, I LOVE you calling your son Drew 2.0 as he is now the new and improved version!! Garrett is 21 and so has lived with friends for a couple of years since high school. When he came to stay at home the last month before he left he only let me wash a few of his clothes a couple times!!! That amazed me! He's gotten very independent the last couple of years. I love having this site to share with each other on, take care!

I will be at PIR with my two kiddos. My husband didn't mention a job just yet. Still waiting for letter 2. I booked flights and rental car, but not the hotel yet. I plan to do that soon. The marriott I heard was nice...

My husband booked us for the Red Carpet Inn today? It's really cheap, and really close to Great Lakes Naval Training Center. I hope it's not too bad! We'll be driving there, but I still want to see if Red Carpet Inn has a shuttle to PIR. I'm somewhat disabled and walking for a long distance will be very hard for me to do! I am SOOOOOO hoping to get a letter tomorrow. I keep finding myself crying, just so full of emotions!!! And I'm getting further and furth behind with things here at home!  All I want to do is read stuff about boot camp, etc!!! This is such a wonderful site. I feel like such an emotional wimp and I don't want others to know how much of a hard time I'm having. But on here, I feel like I can safely share my feelings with other Moms. I appreciate all of you so very, very much. God bless and keep us all and our recruits!!!

Good morning, Ship 07/Div221s,  Yes, the Residence Inn does have a shuttle $6 roundtrip.  I booked a 1 bedroom suite for $120 a night.  It was $134 w/o the AAA discount.  Outdoor pool.  It is fun sharing and really helps me get through this 'fear of the unknown' phase.  I think Drew2.0's recruiters should get alot of credit for preparing him.  He was in DEP for a year and a half.  Jeeze....I thought he'd never leave!  JK  Any new contact today?  Letters?  Calls?

Nothing yet! Our mail usually comes around 2 pm, so I'm hoping my hubby will stalk our mailbox for me while I'm at work!!! Would you believe our room at the Red Carpet Inn is only $56 plux tax!  Probably won't be too fancy, ha, ha!!! Wow Drew did have good preparation then!!!  Anyway, hopefully we'll all get a letter today. I'm really being anal about keeping my cell phone with me too, just in case!  Take care my dears!!!
