I hope there is someone else with a recruit in this ship / division. My son was moved to this division about 3 weeks into bc as they said he had a bad knee. I have gotten no phone call since he was put in this division and one letter. It is driving me crazy not knowing how the division is doing or if anyone else has gotten a phone call or any information at all. PLEASE, if you have any information I would SO appreciate hearing. Thanks.
my son is in this division 228 ship 9 Ive received his box and letter w/ all info andhad a call that I missed to let me know the date of the graduation had been changed to 7/1/10 because it was 7/2/10. Im hoping I receive a call today. thanks vickie
Hi Vickie,
Glad to find at least one other mom with a son in this division. Did you receive a call today? Did your son write and tell you that he thought he would get to call? I have gotten no phone calls from my son but did a letter Thursday that said he really liked this division and that they were now going to be able to write on Tuesdays, Thursday's and Sundays, which he was glad about... as am I! If you get any news about what is going on in their division I would love if you would share!
Thanks,
Tammy

HI Ladies - My name is Mona and my son Brian is also on Ship 9, Div 228.

I received a call and letter from him about week 3. I missed his voice mail about the date change to July 1. Have not heard from him since. His one phone call was very positive. He said he loves the Navy. I pray every day that he is doing well.

We are staying at the Ramada Waukegan-Gurnee. I saw other positive comments about the hotel from sailor moms and we can use our Wyndham points. We are driving in from Des Moines Iowa.

I look forward to meeting you all.
Awesome! There ARE Mom's on here with recruits in this division!! Yea!
I sent a phone card with my son, then he bought one at the airport for some reason, but I think he also told me they could purchase them at the NEX (?), the place they can buy stuff? The other 2 times he called were 'bad news' calls and he only had 1 minute. so I don't know if they footed the bills for those of if he used a calling card. He didn't say. You can send them calling cards, I know that is fine. My son doesn't like to write either, but he has been doing pretty good. One thing I seen suggested and I finally did it last week was write a questionnaire and send him. I put questions I wanted to know the answers to, and either put a yes or no for him to circle or left a space for him to write the answer. Seemed just putting the questions in a regular letter didn't get them answered too well. I'd be happy to send anyone a copy of the questionnaire I did in case you have any of the same questions... you wouldn't have to rewrite the whole thing. I did it in Word. I'll just need your email.
I don't know if we are supposed to put last names on here, I had read we weren't supposed to put them in 'post's or discussions' but could if we sent them in messages to each other. We just need to 'friend' each other to be able to do that. I will send you both a friend request so we can send messages.
My son's first name is Colton. A brief rundown... I have been divorced for 10 years, was married for16 and have also have a 16 yr old daughter at home. My son in the Navy is 20. We live just south of the Quad Cities (Moline, Rock Island IL. & Davenport, Bettendorf Iowa). Mona I'm sure you know where that is. We are lucky to live as close as we do to Great Lakes. Vickie, you have a LONG drive! Mona yours isn't quite so bad but still longer than mine.
I can't believe this division hasn't really gotten any calls from our kids. I thought I read somewhere they were all supposed to get to call home like week 3. Course, nothing seems for sure with the Navy. I will send you guys a friend request.
Tammy
Hi! I'm so glad I found this group!

My brother is in this ship and division and I got a call from him on the 29th I think it was. I just know that it was a Saturday and I'm so lucky I was actually awake at 9 AM (I'm a 20 year old college student and I enjoy sleeping in when I can). The call was a little less than desired but it was great to hear his voice and know for sure that he was alive!

Over the span of about 2 seconds he said "Mom didn't answer her phone, I'm getting yelled at, my graduation is Thursday July 1st, love you, bye." It happened so fast I barely realized it was him calling me.
Welcome to our group NavySister! It is hard when you don't get to hear from them! I got a call this afternoon from my son, hopefully you family got one also. Did anyone else get a call today? Colton said they did good on something and got a flag and he did the best in their class (I don't know if that means division) in the marksman (?) shoot thing. Lol, sorry, he talks so fast and doesn't want to repeat cause he had little time to talk because he wanted to also call his Dad.
We got one today too! Unfortunately he called my phone at about the very second I ran out of my house to go share the letter I got from him today with my aunt across the street. Noooooo. But instead he called my mom, so that was good anyway.

And it was also because he did well at shooting, and got the sharpshooter ribbon, or whatever it is? haha

If he does well during firefighting training next week he'll get another call then!
Hi "Ship 9 Div 228"! Glad to have you aboard 'our' ship! I'm so glad we're getting more and more with recruits in our division! I'm sorry your phone wasn't working today when you got your call, that really stinks. But glad he left you a nice message.. and yes, only 15 more days.. yea!!

And Navy Sister, congrats on the sharpshooter ribbon. Sounds like our guys did well in that! Sorry you missed your call too.

Colton, my son, called today but only got to talk 3 min cause he only had a 10 min call and wanted to call his Dad cause he hadn't got to talk to him since he left. But he said he is doing good and the division got a 'flag'. He didn't have time to tell me what it was for, but said I will be getting a letter with a lot of info in it.
Hi Girls - I missed a call from Brian today, so he just left a short message. He sounds like he is doing well. I also got a letter from him yesterday - so good to hear from him. He said the training continues to get more difficult,. which makes sense, and the schedule is getting more packed.

He did appreciate some extra liberty time last weekend and was able to attend chapel. He said he is in charge of the mail, so when they have letter-writing time, he is spending most of his time answering questions and handling everyone else's mail so does not have a lot of time to write.

He sounded really good, so that is a blessing. The up-side of not getting the call is that now I have a voice mail to replay. :-)

CW, are you from the Muscatine area?

Mona
Hi Mona,
Sorry you missed the call today. Maybe we will get another one soon... hopefully!
No I'm not from the Muscatine area, I'm from Sherrard, IL. Muscatine is about 45 min from here.
That stinks that he is in charge of mail and so doesn't get as much time to write. That's no fair!
