Oh my CrAzY Navy friend, it is so good to see you on this site and great to know you will be around to help your son's friends family through this experience. And I am so glad you loved your ribbons enough to share that info with others. I think they all turn out so good and that people like them so much because each one is a little different and each one is hand made with so much pride for each Sailor, no mass production here. Just individual handmade ribbons for each family and of course all the scrapbook embellishments.... I am adding to those everyday. I can't wait for you to see all the new stuff I have made now that I have a program to design my own stuff. It is so exciting lol.

Greetings fellow Navy moms (wives, dads, sisters, friends).  I'm an oldie... well not to much of an oldie.. my son pir'd March 4th this year... and I still stalk this site to  keep up with things... our Pir group of moms/wives/etc are still real close and we talk at least weekly which is wonderful.  Our group did fun things to keep us occupied during the time ... we chose to wear pink scarves at the PIR so everyone was out shoppin to find the perfect scarf, and posting pics and talking.. we also all wore ribbons from LALA who is on this site.  They are custom made ribbons in the Navy colors and great keepsakes.  Was nice because we could identify each other by the ribbons at PIR.    The key is to keep yourself busy...write your SR, send him/her jokes, pictures anything... letters from his/her dog, cat, horse... just nothing that will draw attention.  My son said his RDC's loved to see the pictures from home and he felt good gettin to talk about us to them..  I copied word searches and send the key with them.. It was the hardest 8+ weeks of my life..and he shipped out the next day after graduation (which is what i hear they are doing almost everytime now) so I didnt have long with him... UGH..so I am planning my first trip to SEE him now, for my bday the first of june!!!  I am so ready.  One of my sons friends left for bootcamp yesterday and those feelings are resurfacing ... count down ever mile stone and know you are one step closer to communication with your SR.  encourage your SR... "you made this choice because you and I both knew you could do it...even when things are hard, or if you make mistakes, pick yourself up and go on"... and everything is FINE at home..   answer your phone no matter what it shows... cause i missed my first call.  ugh.  they call at different times..  and always post your news on here for all to see..  Yes, some might be jealous that you have news and they dont, but ..most will find relief in knowing anything about anyone..  bond and make friends...   and know, many of us went before you and we lived (okay some of us are crazy now, but alive).  much love to all.  I hope LALA will come along soon and tell you about her ribbons and scrap book embellishments so you can have that to play with .....

For most recruits bootcamp is 7 to 8 weeks long :-)

When my daughter left for bootcamp 1 year ago (Tuesday, May 25th) we expected her to have PIR July 30th, she had PIR July 23rd. It was good to have a shorter time at bootcamp but we did have to change all our vacation plans lol.

The time she was there may have been shorter than expected but those first 3 or 4 weeks seemed to drag by and then all of a sudden I was packing and leaving for PIR and I couldn't believe how fast the time had really passed by. Now it has been a year and it was a crazy fast year. I can't believe how much can change in just 1 year.

SailorMom or Rackie:  Do either of you want to add a countdown clock to the "Text Box" section above?  Just google "countdown clocks", find one you like, and download it above.  The time you normally put in for it would be 9 am CT on PIR Day.

Rackie or SailorMom:  One of you may want to go ahead and add the MeetNGreet on the calendar to the right of this page.  Just click on July 7th to get to the page and "Add" the event.
