Another storm ripped through here today and the lights flickered but so far so good. I hope our SRs are doing ok up there. I'm considering quite a few indoor things to do while up in GL incase it rains the whole weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

I have an 8 page letter going out tonight to my SR. I really miss him bad.

I hope we get another phone call soon.

Sobe - That was so sweet - it made me a little teary eyed. I hope his family does show up at PIR.

I'm doing the happy dance, I got a letter! I love Thursdays, and this letter is from one of the recruits I write to, so it's even more special to me! I have about 5 pen pals that are still in bc and who originally never got letters from home. I will give you the readers' digest version. I shall call him Andy and his PIR date is 8/20/10, he wrote the letter this past Sunday, anything in " " are quotes from him:

"Funny you should ask about Hell Week, it's this coming week. I have 3 inspections that I'm not looking foward to". Then he shared what sports he is interested in (he hints about receiving updates from me on his teams!), then tells why he joined the Navy - this was my favorite part "I joined the Navy to protect my family and to travel to places and see the world for free!" This young man is only 18 yrs old - God Bless him! "I don't have a girl in my life right now and I hope I'm not a Grad & Go because I'm missing my family terribly so I wanna spend the weekend with them, plus we plan on going to Six Flags on Sunday!" I sure am glad to read that his family is now in contact with him, because that's why I was writing him, a shipmate in this PIR group told one of you and you contacted me to help write him because this kid was not receiving any letters. I am also hoping that he isn't saying this to make me think he has family, but doesn't. Okay, let's stay positive and get back to letter: "Our RDC's aren't really that bad, we have one that jokes about killing kittens, but he's only teasing!, but our Chief is probably the most mellow out of all of them which is surprising, I thought it was going to be the other way around (lol)". BTW, this kid writes a lot of "lol's" in his letter! "I'll let you know more in my next letter, it's really nice to know that people like you support guys like me because in the end, that's why we do this, you know, join the Navy. It's so you guys at home can be safe. I'm really looking forward to your next letter and thanks for sending the stamps, I didn't have any!".

Wow - he not only liked my letter but wants me to keep writing him back (I've sent a second one, but he hadn't gotten it yet). Thank you Lord for allowing me to be a part of Andy's life. Thanks my prayer for today.

Glad to know all our SR weathered the storm. Michimom - congrats on the progress your son is making tworads recovery, sorry about the news all all his belongings. Hope they find it all. I copied jokes from the readers digest site. I've also copied comics from our papers on sunday as well as some news articles (not that he ever read the paper before he left, but hey, when you have nothing else, who knows)

SailorsSweetheart: we're about 5 1/2 hours driving distance away, so airfare isn't an issue for us. And since my hubby is a procrastinator, we didn't have hotel reservations to cancel. We just hope they find his stuff. Replacing all that from a distance won't be fun.

My SR told me about that tornado too...that sounds scary to me but it seems like they were not worried at all. They are all so brave :)
Thank you for all the "congrats," today has been great in my little corner of the world :)
Michimom: I am glad to hear that your son is feeling better. That would be so great if he joined in with this PIR. I hope they find all this things??? How strange! What are you doing as far as airfaire is concerned. Did you purchase refundable tickets originally or had you not purchased them yet?
dmc20: that is so cute that he drew 13 stick figures, that must have made you giggle, haha!
