Battlestations for your group will start on Thurs night, Aug 12th and go until all divisions have completed it, which could be up through Aug 18th. Several divisions go each night. Hopefully your recruits will be able to let you know the night that they go. You will get the "I'm a Sailor" calls starting around 2:30 pm ESTthat next day (the day they finish since it is an overnight test)....but the calls can go on into the evening. They normally do not come before that time, so no need to have your phone glued to your side in the morning. They have their cap ceremony (trade RECRUIT cap for SAILOR cap), then chores to do before being allowed to make the call. They will finally get to SLEEP at 8 pm that night...many are just about asleep standing up by now...but they give them energy drinks (something I'm NOT a fan of at ALL!) to keep them awake until 8 pm. I don't think there will be any problem with the new sailors sleeping DEEPLY that night! :-)

I found this on PIR 8/27/10. It is a discription of what most of the acronym's are guys/gals use. thought it might help when "translating" our letters.

Yay!!! Like many of you, I got mail today!!! I was completely shocked because I just got mail on Wednesday too so I figured that was my mail for the week. What a sweet surprise it was to open my mail box and see those wonderful little Navy envelopes. They make me so happy! I hope div 283 did well on their inspection and test so I can get a call soon and hear his voice :) I was at the beach all day and if I was in the water I had someone on "phone duty" holding my phone and ready to answer it if it rang! No call today though, hopefully soon! I got home and the first thing I did was jump on N4M and realize that you ladies are awesome with all this posting! I love reading all the updates and news :)

JD – What is UNO’s? Where is it? Do you know if they have a website? I sent my Sailor with two envelopes and about 5 pieces of paper. I think he used it all before he started using the Navy paper and smaller envelopes.

Dmc20 & AlabamaNavyMom – Congrats on the calls!!! You must have been SO happy to hear their voice  I noticed your Sailor’s are in the same division. Do you know if they get a call for doing well on the inspection and test or was it out of the blue?

AlabamaNavyMom – I am surprised that your Sailor will be a Grad & Go since he will be in Great Lakes for A school. Actually, surprised isn’t the word, I should have said I am now nervous, haha! My Sailor is going to A School in Great Lakes and until now I hadn’t even given the idea of him being a Grad & Go a second thought. I hope I get him for the weekend (fingers crossed!).

JessicaBSailormom – So if they are a Grad & Go in Great Lakes we might get them over night… now my hopes are beginning to change, haha! I was under the impression that over liberty weekend all the Sailors would have to go back to their ship every night and was bummed about that; but bring on the Grad & Go if that means I can keep him overnight!

dmc20 - My son didn't say when battleships was but it is during the last week.

Jessica: On the stamped self-addresssed envelopes you and I sent our sons when in bc, at least yours used some and gave some away before throwing the rest away...mine skipped the first two steps and went right to the throw away step!

TxNavyMom: We LOVED Residence Inn-Waukegan. Especially if having a separate bedroom/bath from living room/kitchen is desirable. We actually had a 2-bedroom there and it was great. Not exactly CHEAP, but they throw in a free hot breakfast! We used our AAA rate.
