Hi everyone... I just joined up so don't mind the barebones look for now.

My BF is in Div 283, Ship 7 and I miss him so much! I got the form letter last week but still have yet to get the "box" or his phone call that supposedly was supposed to be here 2 weeks after his "hey I got here safe, love you, bye" call. I know I'm a little antsy for it and he might not be able to call just yet, but it's been tough.

I found this site when looking for flight information and am glad to join. I've read a few of the comments and have seen some of the help and support everyone seems to share. I hope that I'll be able to contribute as we wait until PIR!

Anyway, hi everyone. :)

I GOT A PHONE CALL TODAY FROM MY SAILOR!!! YAY!!! We talked for 9min and 48sec and it was so amazing!!! (I totally cried at first but then I tried to hold it together, ha!) He got to call me because of some financial/paycheck/account number stuff but I did get to squeeze in some love and encouragement :) He is doing great! In one of his previous letters he had told me that he was Master at Arms of the entire ship (which he was) but apparently they asked him to switch, so now he is the Master at Arms of his division (283), I am SO proud of him!!! He got to tell me some pretty cool things about this position and he is really proud of himself. He said the RDC's for div 283 are very good. Yes they are typical RDC's (yelling, screaming, pushing them beyond words, etc...) but he said they are consistent and nobody walk all over them and they are respected, not just out of fear but out of genuine respect.
Oh...here is a BIG thing that you all will LOVE!!! He told me to pray pray pray because tomorrow they have their first official inspection and then on Friday they have to take a test. If they do really well on that they will be rewarded with a ONE HOUR PHONE CALL HOME!!!! I am not sure exactly when that phone call will be made but I would assume either over the weekend or during the following week at some point. So, if you are a praying mom/girlfriend/fiancé, pray hard :) We could all be hearing the voices of our incredible Sailor Recruits very soon, yay!!!

FYI - just a reminder about the Grad & Go Info group, it can help you with all those questions! Click on the hyperlink (blue underlined words).

And another FYI: Just because your recruit is a Grad & Go does not mean that the whole division is - they could be, but they may not be. And.... if they are a G&G, it doesn't mean they will "class up" right away when they arrive at A-School. They all take an Indoc class (learn about the base) and some even take an additional class (I think it's called ATT - my son didn't have to take it), but it could be a week, a month or longer before they actually start "school". There are several reasons for this: As in my son's case, he had to wait until his security clearance was completed, but that only took 3 weeks. Others wait until enough people are there to start a class, others wait until an instructor is available, and there are more reasons too.

Another reason some are G&G is because they need the room at RTC (boot camp) for the new recruits arriving daily. The Navy's theme song is: Hurry up and wait. Sounds crazy, but in reality we want our troops to always be ready and waiting.

SusanA: GradNGo depends on their A School availability, etc. If the A School is ready to receive them right away, they are GradNGo. I'm sure it is a bit more complicated than that, but that is one of the deciding factors.

Do you all know that your recruits get up in the middle of the night to iron? Yes, they have to. They are on different schedules...some may do it at 2 a.m., some at 2:30, etc. Also, my son had watch in the middle of the night and then got to go back to bed for about 3 hours before up for the day. Funny...he didn't ever complain about either of these things and really didn't offer them to me until after he had graduated A School and was home on leave...and after I questioned him alot! So I guess he didn't mind much (although he didn't like the ironing).

I know that Jetcar and Amber are from div 283. Does aonyone else on here haev a recruit from Div. 283? Also, I didn't get a letter today but I am happy for those of you who did. I did get three letters last Friday, I wonder if mine just came earlier or if the ones you'll are getting are a new batch. Either way, yay!

I got another letter today. I still haven't held them in my hand yet, But my friend called and read it to me. He seems okay, got the peanut butter shot on the 8th, said it hurt. He also said they took there swim test, he said everyone did real well but him, :(((((( I'm so sad for him and worried for him right now. I'll be praying a lot for him. Also said he is so over the yelling!!!! But the good news is he was talking about what he want's and what he want's to do on liberty weekend, Yea, he's not giving up. I'm glad to hear the letters are starting to come and I can't wait for him to call, so he can HEAR my encouragement. I can't wait for them to start getting letters. I changed my hotel from the gateway inn to the Navy lodge, my parents are still staying on base, but I didn't want to have to follow my parents around all the time or vise versa, as you have to do when you don't have a military ID.
