Sobe, Incognito, Susan, Sharon, and Jame's Mom - Thank you all so much for helping to figure out exactly where our Sailors are in this process. In my last letter from my Sailor he said they were going to be moving into the USS Chicago on Sunday the 4th... so that tells me that they have completed all the P-Days, and today they probably just finished their first week of actual boot camp and they will be starting thier second week tomorrow (well, div 283 at least, not sure if that is the same case for ALL divisions with this PIR... still a little confused about that part, ha!). The reason I have taken such an interest in trying to figure out which "week" they are in is because I have found two pretty good websites that describe what is going on each week in genearl. Here are two sites if you are interested in reading about it:
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navyjoin/l/aanavybasic1.htm
The above site even gives an explination of a "typical day" in the life of a recruit :)

The navyfordads website gives a more concise version of the same information.

Someone was asking for info on how they count their weeks. There is a system, it starts when P-days are over. Week one, day three (Wed) is written 1-3, week two, day five is written 2-5. Sundays are never counted and Saturdays do count. I never could figure it out, but I asked someone else to help and here is her response.

Hi Ladies I was asked to come over here and try to explain the days of the week in BC..... so I'll give it a shot.

You know I honestly never totally figured out the day and week counting thing myself, but this is what I do know each division starts on a different day of the week (I think) I think they start counting at the end of P week. Whatever day that falls on then it starts Week 1 -day one, week 1 day two..... 3, 4 and 5 Then Week 2- day one, Week 2 day two and so on......... There are only 5 days counted in the week. Then it starts over. Sunday is called "Holiday" and I do not believe its counted in the days of the week (even though they do some work on that day, just not as much- they can go to church in the moring if they want)
I know for sure that Saturdays are a normal "working day". As much as we' LOVE to know exactly what they are doing on any given day or in a particular week we simply CANT. (phone calls are the best way to get a timeline) Unless each sailor writes home and gives a calendar of events for their div and most recruits dont do that until like near the end.
The most valuable piece of advice I have for moms who REALLY want to know is to *remember at that VERY FIRST phone call the FIRST question you ask is What week and day is TODAY, then you can sit with a calendar and map it out. But that advice needs to be CLEARLY visable on the DEP group AND BC moms. Because by the time you get to your PIR group, you have other things on your mind.

The letter writting "conversation" back and forth with your SR gets very disjointed. Because once they start recieving mail at about the 3rd week in, the letters they get to write on Sunday get to you on Wednesday or Thursday (sometimes Friday) of the SAME week they write but our letters to them can take as much as 10 days on average to get into their hot little hands! Its NOT that they are "holding them back on purpose" its just that the tons of mail they get up there takes more time to be sorted through. The outgoing mail doesnt need "sorting". Piece of advice, be SURE to write your SR to confirm WHO you need on the PIR list if its going to change from what they sent in the FORM letter. The RECRUIT had the FINAL say but if you want to make a "request" to your SR get that request sent ASAP. They have to turn in a FINAL list that CANNOT be changed. Somtime late in week 6 (I think)

Just out of curiosity, when did your recruits arrive in GL?

Yay, we are in the 30's for our countdown!!! Also, thanks for the week/day info ladies :) I sent him a questionnaire yesterday and one of the questions is "What is the current date?" and the very next question is "what week/day are you in?" and the question after that is "When do your new "weeks" start?" So, hopefully as soon as I get that back I will understand it and then I will share it on here with everyone :) When I get it back I will share tons of things on here with everyone!

Oh, also, I believe 1-1 is the first day of actual boot camp, not the processing days.

SailorsSweetheart: When you get a call from your recruit, ask him what day he is on then. Write it down and then you can keep up. That is what my son did. I think my son's "Day 1-1" was on a Thursday.

Sobe - Thank you! Will she post it as a discussion at the top of this group? That would be so cool :) Does she know how to tell when "1-1" started. Also, sometimes I get confused... is week one considered the P-Days or does week one start after P-Days? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and searching things out for all us "newbies", I really appreciate you :)
